Haven't played since 2019. Continue with save or new save?
Like the title says, I haven't played this game in more than 2 years. I have around 48 hours of playtime and I remember I was pretty into the grind. However, I completely forgot everything about how this game works and I'm sure with the multitude of updates, a lots changed. Should I continue the save and learn or just start fresh?

You Choice... The game should up-date, and you present save should work fine.
It will all come back to you as you go.

Start a new game to refresh yourself. Then go back to your old save and see if you can pick up where you left off. Some players maintain multiple saves just for the fun of it.

Yes.

Keep your old save, and keep at least one open save spot for the next Expedition, whenever it comes out.

Start a new one though, and get reacquainted with the game, then go back to what you were doing. I still have my original save from release day, and I revisit it from time to time as well.

Both or your choice. Personally, I would probably start a new save if I had been away that long. I think the new features (for you) will be introduced more organically that way.

You can always skip back to your older save if you are not feeling the fun of getting your new character up to a high level. That seems unlikely since most of the fun of the game is gaining slots and capabilities. The exploring part never changes and people either love it or are in the "everything feels the same" camp.

not sure when the last reset was but your bases could have moved from paradise to ugly lava rain hades planet and be buried under a mountain if they did a reset since your last go. In that case start over is attractive. Depends on how attached you were to your bases. The game is really casual now, and you can get everything in < 1 week so recovery isnt bad if you do a new save.

A lot has changed since then. I'd start new. Heck, I start new every once in a while just to keep things fresh anyway.

If I were in your position, I would start with the new expedition and use that as a refresher course. Once you complete that, you can continue on with it, or go back to your old save and collect your expedition rewards in the Nexus.
