Help with keeping Wires Active
So, I have 12 Electromagnetic Generators running off an S class Power Source, and I have been trying to wire them to my base, problem is, my base is 800 units away, and when I run a wire all the way there it turns red, and there is no power.
How do you keep a electric current going for long distances?

What I did was run power from the base as far as it would go, then back up a bit, build a solar power unit, attach the power to it, then run another power line towards the generator site. Rinse and repeat until you get there and hook up the power. Then you can either leave the solar units or delete them and reattach the power lines. You can use anything you want, I just used the solar units as they are easy to see from a distance. Breaking the runs up into shorter lengths of power line seems to work better as well.

So, does this work if you are running a super high amount of electricity? Or does it go down since the solar panel goes in it to.

The electrical system is not that complex. It doesn't seem to matter how I connect my power devices, just that they are all connected and plugged into rooms and modules I want to power.

That is not my issue, my issue is running multiple wires about 800 units+ away from the power source, and keeping the wire electrical, and not turning red.

Have you tried connecting to a battery before it cuts off then continuing to run the wires?

Yes, just tried that, doesn't seem to work either

Have you tried creating waypoints with the wire, or are you trying to do one long run?

If bridging the distance with other devices does not work then I'd assume there is a maximum distance until you hear or experience otherwise. It doesn't make a ton of sense they would leave building open ended enough to allow building anywhere on the planet with only one base computer, especially with active resourcing that electricity and resource piping provide. They don't render that far and the active area around the player is not that far.

You could try building another base computer. Base computers have a 147u range but the wiki says that range increases as you build higher.

Yeah theres likely a distance limitation then or a wire count limit.

Already did, put like 4 in a row, but the result is the same

At least for the hotspots, I heard that beyond 400u is not ok...that said, you can also just put your generators 400u closer to the base and then run the wire. Apparently the power received does not change if not right on top of hotspot...but this is all 2nd hand.

Hmmm, going to have to try that.

What I did, was I built sections of metal flooring off my main base, which sits on mostly metal flooring elevated about 2 or 3 feet above grade.

I took my exocraft, the one that can hover over water, out a short distance and built a pier out over the water. Then, deleted several sections, then added a few more in the direction of the hot spot, then went back and deleted the previous sections of metal flooring.

Took several minutes of building, then deleting, then building again to reach the hot spot, but I got there and was still able to access the build menu from over 900u away from my base!

I did this all in one go, no saving and/or quitting. I found out this little trick when Next first dropped, and was able, at that time, to build as far out as 1500u from ONE Base Computer.

You have to kind of "leap frog" building and then deleting un-wanted base items as you move further away to keep the build menu "active".

Once over the hot spot, I added the final section of metal flooring, around 4 to 6 sections I believe, right over the hot spot about 3 feet above the water, and built my Electromagnetic generators and connected them together, but did NOT connect them to the base.

I rode my exocraft back to base, over 900u away mind you, and was carefully able to connect one of the electrical outlets on one of my pre-fab round rooms DIRECTLY onto the generator array that was out over the water over 900u away with ONE piece of wire.

It took a little patience, but it is do-able:

ok question, after spending some time locating wifi hotspots, i found something close to my base, however, when i use the construction menu, power is not an option... do i need to plop a base comp at the wifi spot or am i doing something wrong?
