insufficient power for first aid
Anyone else encounter the first aid station saying "insufficient power" even if you have a surplus of power for your base?

I always use cuboids or large structures, and they work automatically with those devices when mounted on prefab (cuboid or large structure) surfaces. Generally in the past, I had a lot of issues when using basic materials as functional surfaces, ie. not just a shell for a cuboid structure. All those wire segments eventually pushed me over the construction limit....and if just using basic materials, you can't help it as you need to create massive numbers of wire segments to wire things. This was more a problem when Beyond first dropped and they were playing with the construction limit formula. I noticed then that if I hit the construction limit (not the base limit, the global limit), sometimes to add a landing pad, I would have to delete one little wire segment like you see in Sangara's wiring screenshot. A 1 to 1 thing. 1 wire segment = 1 construction unit. Some here claim that's not the case now, but I'll see, once I hit the new construction limit. I'm on a new game, and wanted to get down some essential bases first before building up a bunch of other ones.

I just started playing this game (I started years ago and rage quit very early).

So, if I don't have any DLC, how am I supposed to build this? I have NO idea what most people are talking about in this thread. I tried connecting the health station to a lamp, it didn't work. To a wooden wall. Nope. I build an extra section of the wooden building as only using alloy - still wouldn't work.

Are you saying I have to build a new base and make it entirely out of alloy components to be able to use the health station?

I just put mine on the back of a storage cube. Works perfectly fine there.

The unit needs to be on a prefab powered building section, wood does not conduct power.

These are design for prefab building pieces.

Additionally I've played 7000+ hours and never needed one of those anyway. All they do is replace one health icon unit (the plus signs). There are many other ways of doing that like eating meat.

Yeah, they're not gonna fix this at this stage in the game development probably. It needs to be placed on a prefab or cuboid to work. Devs would have to add the ability to connect a power wire to these.

Though it really is not a "problem". I don't even remember the last time I used First Aid Station. They're not really critical to gameplay.

Just discovered this independently and came here to say this. Confirmed to work.

5 YEARS AND THIS IS RELEVANT HOW?

I placed lights on the other side of wood walls previously and these would work, but now you cant, seems this is intentional as you can't even place the repair station and lights in the same 'bubble' any more. If anyone finds a working method let us know, I generally don't use prefabs.

Wow Necro cop alert, woot woot woot, 'She cannae take it captain, one more necro and the forums gonnae explode.', pot and toss (as they say in tiddlywinks)

It still work with storage container. You can place it on it or on a wall near it.

Still a common question, and the fact that the old workaround no longer works is good info to add.

Storage containers are essentially cuboids that are solid. Hence anything you stick to them are powered as long as the storage containers are powered. Most lights that have to be connected to wiring will have a small amount of power drain, so be sure to keep track of it as it can add up if you are utilizing many lights.

Those walls don't conduct power.

They need a powered surface to work, note those buildings with a blue bar at the bottom.

Alternatively you can have them on your freighter, all freighter rooms are powered when it's connected to bridge.
