Cannot Tag items in Scan with Controller
You know where you use the scanner to see what resource deposits, points of interest, and so forth are in the distance? On keyboard, default is F to open scanner, and E to pin it so you can see the tag outside of scanner mode. On Xbox controller settings, it's the X button, and for some reason and only when attempting it with the controller, I cannot tag stuff. Hold the X button, but it won't work. Hold E, and it does work if I press it on my keyboard instead.

Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem at all/know a potential fix. I would really like not to have to constantly swap to my keyboard to tag stuff ><

This is a known issue with the Beyond update and the only thing to do is wait until they fix it.

Hello Games switching the game from Xinput to the Steam Controller API broke a lot of stuff.

No you need to send this to Zendesk, the more ppl that send this info the higher on the pile the problem will get and will get attention sooner.

Use that configuration. It fixes the issue.

Or, Hello Games could fix the default so that people don't have to use Steam's stupid controller UI at all.

Sure but would you rather wait for them to fix or use a fix that's available now? Your choice. I'm just putting the option out there.

So much this. Steams controller overlay is bollocks.

Like what wrong with you people? The guy was asking for a fix not for you to go on a rant about things being broken and steam controller config sucking.

Lmao. That is one of the stupidest responses I've seen on this forum. Congratulations for being daft and failing to help the OP in any meaningful way.
If you are using an XBox one controller, they failed to set up the config correctly. Exit the game first (because the controller config window doesn't show some advanced settings if you do it from ingame or if the game is still running).

In your steam library, use right mouse button on No Man's Sky and select "edit steam controller configuration"

-> window opens

select "on foot"
select button configuration bottom right
select x
make sure "toggle mutli-button on" is active (this essential setting doesn't show up if you try to config ingame or while game is running)
select "tag marker" button to add this function to the ones that are already assigned to X

back, back, done
Start game
tagging should work now

It does. Now everything works fine for me (unlike in other presets where picking up items was delayed)

Tried this myself, but the tag marker was already there. Even if I try to desativate this and reativate, doesn't work.

Are you sure you don't confuse 'Tag Marker' with 'Place Custom Marker'? The former is missing, the latter is already there. I think the latter is responsible for you being able to place a marker anywhere on a planet, not just on predefined points of interest. And yes the context based 'X' shows up in game even without 'Tag Marker' assigned to X once you target a predefined point of interest but it seems to be getting confused with 'Place Custom Marker' by the game and does nothing if you don't add the 'Tag Marker' function.

Now that you mentioned, yes, it's the place custom marker. I coudn't find the tag marker O_o. Can you please post a screenshot from your controller configuration tool so I can see the position? My main language isn't english and I'm starting to think that the option is there, but not with the correct translation...

I can still tag things (like salvaged tech etc) by holding down square button on PS4 controller (for either PS4 or PC) it could be that the tag function is currently missing from other controller schemes.

Some control (especially for keyboard) is missing currently due to bugs.
