Build the Electrical Cloaking Unit. It will hide every cable in your base.
Electrical Cloaking Unit
They generally don't connect properly, won't connect at all if either you or ship is too close, even though neither one is, and the "ghost" pre-image of where the wires or pipes will be placed has no relation to how they will be placed.
The Electrical Cloaking Unit covers the visual errors caused by this, but it doesn't correct the hassles associated with just trying to make sure the connections actually work between generators, extractors and supply depots that are separated by long distances.
The terrain still regenerates inside your base so if you are using basic parts you should build up one level. You can make that level a sublevel for your main base and put all of your solar panel;s, batteries, and storage containers in the sublevel then run the wires through the floor so that only a tiny bit shows up on your main level.

Solar panels still work even inside opaque structures and you can still reach your storage containers from the main level using the "X" menu.
For hiding wires I still prefer to have a hidden layer in the floor and ceiling, but for walls it involves accurate placing of cables in advance. And all of that effort is only really worth it for your main base, and needs to be done early... foundations of building time.
EDIT: I think snapping prefab corridors to basic doors works fine.
