Space Weather?
I'm fairly new to this game and I was watching star trek and was curious to know if NMS has space weather like Ion Storms or anything like those, meteor showers, asteroid showers or anything else. if so please let me know.

There are asteroids in space, but they don't move. There are meteor storms on planets.

What do you guys mean, "There's no space weather"? Sometimes it seems like everything is blowing by or pushing me through so hot and fast that I can't hit my landing mark.

I know, it's more of a computer graphics issue, but it's there.

where are you trying to land in space? i only know of the derelict freighters and your damaged frigates... in both cases, there's landing pads that auto-land you when you're close enough and they turn green... you only need hit the landing button...

Reminds me of SWG and those random lightning storms in static spots in the space maps. Would be a fun change of pace to encounter random stuff outside of space anomalies but it'd probly get annoying after a while. Plus, I'm not sure how well they'd be able to present something like that while pulsing. I do agree we need more eye candy in space, though.

I guess it is important to mention to OP that this is a space fantasy game. It has almost no intention to mimic RL space. If you fall off a frigate in space, you fall. You do not free fall. There are no orbital mechanics and the only "weightless" mimic is inside a derelict freighter.

Basically, it has more to do with 1950's sci-fi movies. If you want something realistic you need to go Kerbal Space Program.

You forgot the little hole at the space stations. :steamlaughcry:

That's not technically "in space" when you are landing on a planet you are in its atmosphere.

In actual space there isn't any weather in any case. Most areas of space have only 1-3 atoms of hydrogen per cubic meter of space and are considered near perfect vacuums. Real asteroid belts have asteroids that are an average size of 33 feet across and each one is separated by an average distance 600,000 miles from its nearest neighbor.

Even the rings of Saturn are mostly small grains of sand with a few chunks up to the size of mountains thrown in and the pieces are separated by an average distance of three times their average size and even though Saturn is huge its ring is only about 1 kilometer thick at its thickest spots and as little as 100 meters thick in the places that it can be measured and are still visible.

In our solar system, 99.8% of all the mass is in the sun. Of the .2% left 90% of that is in Jupiter and Saturn.

The only place you are going to experience what could be called space weather is near the star when there is a CME event (coronal mass ejection) or near Juptier where its liquid hydrogen core creates a huge magnetic field that reaches and interacts with its nearest and largest moons.

Yes, this only happens to me in NMS space. Speaking specifically of landing on derelict freighters, at times to repair my own fleet and even trying to hit the target hole for the space stations. I'm always in a hurry but even at times my "air brakes" either don't work or don't work fast enough. It's kind of fun because I'm always waiting to happen.

i guess so... they have landing pads inside them like the anomaly does... i didn't consider one might have problems getting into the entrances of space stations and the anomaly... i'll stop there before i make a NSFW joke :steammocking: :steamhappy: :steamhappy:

I don't know what NSFW is, so that would definitely go over my head but apparently some, okay, many, would catch it.

But I did just catch a vision of every time I missed. Seeing the side of my face smashed up against a glass globe and sliding around half of it while others inside, watch and all we hear is a long and loud squeak. How do you casually get back up from that one? :steamlaughcry:

NSFW == Not Safe For Work : generally "adult" in nature ;)
