Isn't pet slot a bit expensive?
Considerate they are almost useless

Most players end up with more currency than they will ever need, so I suppose Hello Games will keep adding occasional currency sinks.

The line of thinking that is at work here, is probably not "We want to provide more pet slots. What would be a fine price for them?". Rather, it's probably: "We want more currency sinks that players can use their units and nanites for. Where can we add things that provide a little bit of utility, but not too much, so that the players who can't afford them yet won't get frustrated."

20k nanites is a bit much. They should have used units instead, most players are swimming in units.

I agree. Not worth more than the a full stack of mold sitting in the refiner for 20 minutes. I won't pay more than that for a useless pet.

Agreed, it's a bit much. Not sure why they went with a nanite money-sink instead of credits. If you're a billionaire you can buy inventory slots for all 6 C Class ships and still have enough credits left over. Nanites can burn out pretty fast, on the other hand.

Well, you get 1000-2000 nanites to found all fauna on a planet, on top of other things like uploads. If you are interested in companions you should also interested to find "good" companions, and so you end up finding every fauna in almost every planet

I have 5 companions slot unlocked, all tech at anomaly unlocked, all upgrade S needed for suit and multitools and most for exocrafts and ships, and I now have 25k nanites... in 45 hours of play, mostly done during the very first expedition.

Until this expedition 5, I never did more then spend a couple of minutes messing with one pet long enough to surmise they are useless and annoying. I never plan on using that feature again.

I guess for those who are into pets, they need a reasonable length game loop so the nanite prices probably do that. Not an issue for me because I will never unlock those slots.

As noted, there are so many ways to get mass nanites now quickly it is not really a burden to raise 20K.

Companions become more useful as soon as you start to take care of their progeny... beside being a way of explore a planet without need of fuel and be able to use scanner and visor in the meantime. If correctly sequenced they can be a way to find resources of fight other aggressive animals.

They need a lot of work from HG anyway

True - I agree the pets are a nuisance, but with mold spores everywhere - Nanites are cheap now. Build a mold spore farm base, travel in and out just a few times & yield tens of thousands of nanites - EZ peasy :nmsatlas:
refine larva cores and you're swimming in nanites

Even at 100% helpful I have never had a pet find more than a trivial amount of a common resource.

You can use your visor while riding which is slightly useful if your looking for something. But you can not scan fu
Fauna, flora, and rocks. If you could do that then they would be much more useful.

Well I always looking for something when I explore planets.... sometimes I just go on a pet (maybe a flyingone) and start moving in one direction, often I stumble upon something interesting. There are a lot of things yuo can find on a planet. Useful to find hotspot using survey device too.

Having 18 pet slots is definitely an end-game player kind of thing. 20K is reasonable for that. I'm just glad they did it, since now I can have the baseline pet, and then the mutated version without having to delete one or the other.

It does feel expensive when just starting out.

Wow they finally increased the number of possible slots from 6?

If your having money issues , visit a few friendly bases that specialize on mining or gardening and gather away. Expedition5 start system can easily make 200mil just from gathering Activated indium and indium from other players farms ... they even have trade terminals for you to sell it at.
