A Class Super freighter vs S Class Super Freighter
If I find a 34 slot ship with 9 tech slots that's just A class instead of S class, should I settle for this, or push for S class? (i.e. what benefits do I get from going for S rather than A)

A-Class Hyperdrive Efficiency only reaches 4.0. S-Class reaches 8.0 (twice as far per tank).
A-Class Hyperdrive bonus tops at 160% S-Class bonus tops at 180%.
In short, S-Class offers more storage, range, efficiency. That's about it. : )

That being said, I never go looking for an S-Class. If you play long enough, the game will toss a couple of S-Class your way eventually. Nice surprise when it does!

S class can have 21 tech slots. They also have better hyperdrive stat. Other than that, I settled for A class based on the style of the ship and have no regrets.

This is a fair comment. :D

Okay, so am slightly gutted as I cleared a ship of enemies, it failed to comm me, and so I check it out anyway, and it was a 34/9 A class. I still might hold out for the S Class, but not sure it's really worth it based on feedback. Depends on how long I'm at it before I get bored and decide to settle for an A instead.

I'm just not a fan of having to entirely re-design and build the ships interior each time I upgrade. Yes, I can get all the resources back, but I'm going to have to place everything all over again. I don't mind doing that with bases as I get to keep my old ones, but the thought of having to go over it all again every time I want to upgrade... eeehhh.

Personally, I'd jump on that A34/9 and get on with playing the game. I probably rebuild freighter interiors 10 times every game I've played. Temporary inconvenience. : )

I jumped to the center of Euclid and then again to the center of Hilbert with an A-Class freighter this game before I eventually stumbled on an S-Class in Calypso.

Interestingly I would guess many players with an S Class (or any class for that matter) freighter don't actually jump with the freighter itself.

For example I just jump in my explorer and then drag my S Class freighter along.

I only mention this because I really don't think jump distance is a huge deal in a freighter. The biggest things I look for are tech space (especially for frigate upgrades) and storage.

You may be right about only a few players using the freighter to jump. However, it is so easy to just stop and not worry about where you are or finding a place to land when you need a break. Just resume when you're ready. The trip to the center in a fully upgraded S-Class freighter takes about 2 hours (~110 jumps) and uses only one Warp Hypercore.

You can use the Anomaly to achieve the same thing if you want to create a save point quickly.

The trip to the centre, regardless of your ship/freighter, takes a few minutes if you use a portal.

More satisfying when I can travel anywhere all on my own!
I guess it's like driving to a vacation destination instead of taking an airline.
I'm in no hurry, I enjoy the drive. : )

Well, I've found an A-Class with 33 slots and 9 tech spaces. How hard is it to get the extra slots for a freighter?

Derelict Freighters can give you a Cargo Bulkhead (Freighter Inventory Slot) for finishing them.

S class space and farming bulkhead isn't really worth it imo

I was looking for these stats yesterday. where did you find this?
even more reason to keep reloading my current auto-save to get S-class.

I rarely use my freighter to jump, I just take the first one offered until I can afford to upgrade if I happen upon an S-Class.
zOldBulldog Apr 9, 2021 @ 11:34pm
I was never offered a free freighter or financial reward after defending a freighter from pirates (so after several battles I just paid for a nice 34 slot A class. It also takes me quite a bit more than 5 warps to get a battle.

Am I doing something wrong or has the game changed these behaviors?

Also, when I eventually stumble onto an S class... (1) Are there some S-class ships I should NOT buy? (2) Is the safe freighter change procedure as simple as summoning mine, disassembling everything, buying the new one, reassembling. Or are there additional steps to follow?
