The actual Geobay is useful for other players if they visit a player base as a guest. Particularly if you build racetracks. You can also change the cosmetic look of an exocar, but must build the geobay to do that.
Exocar Geobays also display an icon if available and so are useful as an alternative marker for navigating a planet.
