New game initial source signal points underground
Started a new game and got to the part where I am to find the source of the first signal. Found the marker, but there is nothing on top of the ground. I assume somehow it is underground. Happened twice in 2 new games. So, I thought I'd find a space station to buy a terrain manipulator or a new multi-tool. Can't find a space station at all. I'm guessing because I haven't completed the source signal quest. No hyperdrive to get to another system. Then, I scoured the planets for a small trading post, can't find any. Exhausted of ideas. Thoughts?

Terrain manipulator is a blueprint you install on every MT

The terrain manipulator is always at the first location on the first planet you are guided to after escaping the planet you are awakened on. That location is not a trading center (Not usually). It's just a POI marked for you to interact with. That POI is probably still available to you if you have even reached that point yet.

It's one of those little pods that have sparks shooting out of it that you get nanites from and sometimes the round ball that you find at crash sites only there is no crashed ship. Try finding one nearby the location to see if it gives you that and the base blueprint. If not then start over.

IF you have any mods, you may want to disable them before starting your new game.

Thank you.. I think that's it... just found a vid explaining that it was changed and you have to look around now..

That maybe so, but I have learned that if a step seems impossible then just keep looking. The game has a tendency to make up what it messes up. But if you can't get what you need after going to another location in less than 30 minutes. Giving up may be the best option.
