My personal favorites are the cold planets. There is something about the background sounds that is soothing to me. Kind of weird, but I like it. Unfortunately, in one of the last updates the frequency of the sounds has diminished.

As for looks, anything with bioluminescence.

Same, I like shimmering grass and glowing trees.
I have no preference for grass color, but I like my oceans and sky's to be green.
And of course, pleasant weather and less sentinel activities is a must.

Korvax :nmskorvax:, default lush (not mushrooms or rocks) green ground, blue or teal sky, i accept ocasionally storms, blue sea, all green flora if possible, a decent fauna if possible (no, there'snt / no there'snt) and the touch of prefection is a Dihiodrogen athmosphere (have the lowest rad/tox levels)

Exactly like this jewel :nmsunits: :

Nah, in this fantasy world, I'm not looking for earth like planets, quite the opposite. In fact, I avoid them. Once I land and see it's earth like I leave. I have only built bases in a few community locations.

I understand some are looking for Earth like planets and when I stumble on a good one I will share the location.

Those planets are really unique in this game, as in the real life, i like them because of that. Uninhabitable planets there are practically one of each type in every system, even some repeated. But in a matter of taste... :steamsalty:

Any planet with interesting or rare fauna.

#1 by far, it has to have a blue sky. A lot of other requirements I've softened on, but I have decided 100% that I just can't stand planets with that yellow/purple/orange/red/green haze. The lighting is all strange and it's discomforting.
Believe it or not, there is science behind that.

I like offbeat stuff. Bubbles, odd colors, weird critters, whatever -- radiation planets feel the most 'alien' to me and I like them. I seem to enjoy desert planets and icy planets reasonably well. Fire and toxic are just too single color. Most of the dead and anomaly planets are too one thing to be worth more than a scan the one guy drive by.
Its been a while since I took a planet side base seriously, though, so I just pick a planet to bash around on for a while and move on. My base near my settlement is the first I have upgraded past a portal and put much into in a very long time. Mostly I do base stuff on the freighter.

I prefer Paradise worlds, the colors aren't that important as long is they're not distracting or headache inducing. I see the attraction of hazardous planets, because they give purpose to bases with shelter. On a paradise planet, all I need is to elevate and provide a floor with no need of a roof, which can be boring. I build walls and a roof anyway for lighting.

i like planet that vegetation glows during the night
paradisiac planet

The more hours I rack up in NMS, the longer my criteria list gets for a "perfect" planet. For me this makes exploring more fun. Now when I come across a perfect planet, I know just how rare it is because of the hundreds of planets that preceded it. The other thing I like about having a long criteria list is that it helps me maintain my perspective of how different every planet really is, if one looks closely at them. Without using a critical eye, it's very easy to fall into the, "once you've seen 20 planets, they're all the same" perspective, which I don't want to acquire.

I tend to prefer snowy planets with mountains, mostly because I love snow and have spent most of my real life living in the mountains where it snows a lot in the winter. A snowy planet with turquoise water and mild to no storms is actually quite rare in my experience with NMS. I have discovered a few paradise planets that I like, but only a few. The same with desert planets. I like them in general, but it's hard to find desert planets with good weather, cacti and lots of plants. I'm currently building on a moon that is amazing in this way. Zero storms, lots of desert flowers and cacti. I have only found two desert type planets with water, ok weather and cacti, very rare. My new thing is caves. I always would check out a few caves on a planet that I landed on and some were beautiful inside, but I always felt they needed to be bigger. Then one day I discovered a planet that I could fly my ship inside the cave. That blew me away! Now I search hard for planets that have amazing cave systems, and they are pretty rare. Add in all the other criteria I have and it feels like a one-in-a-million planet when I discover it, which is probable akin to Sean Murray's vision of exploration in NMS.

Here's a couple of screenshots of planets I like:

T3 economy system with an extreme world and a variety of other worlds, preferably flat landscapes with few to no trees and low to no mountains. Fast resource acquisition for upgrades and tech are key to me. Easier travel over terrain expedites this. Also having curious deposits is a big plus. The flatter terrain would permit more mobility and speed up salvaged tech gathering. The first system in expedition 4 was very close to what I generally look for.

Orlestie is a beast of a planet. It is in a t3 system. It has frequent curious deposit groups. Orlestie also has sentient plants for quick gravitino acquisition with a side of danger of course. Head over to wasan which is a very annoying place and grab some storm crystals.

After all the dust clears, I usually hang around on my ship unless I am setting up a major economic operation such as stasis device farms and activated indium mining operations. Money gained from worms if you are on the expedition can be spent at the space port for stacks of needed building and crafting mats. You are set.
