You can't, unless you use the save editor. Also, it can kill anything with some upgrades.

Funny you'd call it puny. I've been using it during the current expedition, and I was thinking, 'hey, have they buffed this thing?'. Of course you need to be reasonably good at dogfighting, but I polish off the pirates at a rapid pace during a freighter battle, using that as my only weapon. And that's with no upgrades.

I know there is plenty of space on a maxed out ship, however i need that space for double upgrades (6 in main inventory and tech inventory, for hyperdrive, shields, pulse drive and launch thrusters.

So apart from the golden vector, even before it was added, the photon cannon was the go to weapon. Even after trying out others, I always fall back on it. Just 3 S-Class upgrades is enough to eliminate anything.

As many have said. Use golden vector ship, able to choose a weapon focus for the ship without the mandatory photon cannon. Or use save editor to remove it.

You can travel to another galaxy with the ship, everything needs to be repaired, but ignore fixing the cannon, then it is permanently shut down.

you can't get rid of some things. This is one of them. Because of this, it is inefficient to install any other weapon: the PC is deadly and you are stuck with it, so max it out instead of adding something else and mods for the something else saves at least 1 slot.

Yea combat isn't hard enough for it to matter, but its lame, and I want the option to remove things I don't want lol

To be fair, I also thought it would be cool if we could remove the hyperdrive and photon cannon. They're not required for fighting nor flying. If 'possibility of having no weapon must be avoided' is the reason, then golden vector and all the twitch reward ships don't have the photon cannon and weapon they do have can be dismantled even mid-flight. The result is a ship with no weapon. Same with hyperdrive - sometimes I wish when I buy a ship I know I will not be warping with I should be able to remove unneeded tech... alas.

I got rid of the infra knife and put a photon cannon on in it's place. The photon cannon and the positron ejector are the only two options I will use. The rest are kinda garbage. The phase beams feel nice to use occasionally, but if you are doing freighter fights the chances for friendly fire incidents are a bit too high. Plus despite what it says on the tin, it is actually not all that good for mining.

The photon cannon, especially when on an S-Class and upgraded is one of the most precise and deadly weapons for your ship. The positron ejector is the most deadly, just be careful of friendly fire. Hell the positron ejector can very effectively mine planetary surfaces for basic resources. The only two weapons you need. Infra knife module sucks.

yea but the infra knife sounds cool and combat does not require you to use the meta in this game. You should be able to get rid of the boring default gun, regardless if you like it lol

This is the problem im having right now.. I bought ehe Infra Knives and crafted them, and just want to rock Intra knives and rockets (primary and secondary guns) Yet I cannon remove or replace the Photon Cannons, Its going to make me cycle through it every damage time I switch between the primary and secondary weapon. So the game is really forcing us to use Photon Cannon as the primary ? Its going to make all the other weapon types pointless.

its kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ theres not mounted spots you can change weapons like in Elite dangerous, or X4. Its a must for space combat being able to customize your load outs.

When the photon cannon is fully upgraded to all S then you don't need to cycle to other weapons. That's why it's the only weapon I have on my ship.
