Wrecked Space Station?
Potential spoiler warning.....

I've been to a couple hundred space stations, but today I went to one and found it wrecked and deserted. No vendors, no shopping stalls, no NPCs. On one side of the landing bay was a teleport, and on the other side was a galactic trade terminal. Anyone else ever see this?

Yes. These are found in abandoned systems, I think they were added in the NEXT update a few years ago. The internal space used a previous version of the space station layout.

All planets will also have no NPCs.

They are mostly found in green and red systems. Yellow are never abandoned or uninhabited. Blue are ussualy uninhabited.

Yeah.. there are a lot of them... inside its dark with a red light ... At the planets and moons in that system you will get a lot Whispering Eggs and Biological Horrors and Buried Technology Modules

They are more common than you may think. Some one star economy systems end up being abandon, but if you don't regularly warp into them you wouldn't know it. It doesn't show as abandon until you warp into the system. The economy scanners will show low or poor and the conflict scanner will say not available. The conflict scanner is how I find them.

The TP will have no one there and the one minor settlement I found was also abandon with whispering eggs around it. Kink of cool and creepy at the same time.

interestingly enough, abandoned systems are simply very old assets that have been recycled by NMS dev. the abandoned station you visited was the first model of a station in NMS, with no NPCs and no ships, no scrapping station or mod/quest vendors, no plastic chairs or coffee tables... just a TP and a trade station, oh and a window.

so when you visit those stations, and the abandoned TP and other buildings in the systems, you're just being recycled through old unused content

NMS dev will toss old outdated content at you rather than creating new content every time :)

Why not repurpose old assets? They spent time making them, they can't get that time back.

The abandoned stations were introduced simultaneously with the new model station. That means they were being developed in parallel. Kinda hard to design a version of something that doesn't exist yet.

The Abandon Station model is based on the previous space station. If you played version 1.0 the inside of the stations looked like that expect not broken.

I've actually been looking for these type of systems because this is where the robots are at which means you can farm nanites which is pretty cool. They make great pets too as they don't have stamina.

I've only found robot fauna in uninhabited systems (not the same as abandoned). Try blue systems.

Yes, I know. Update 1.50, NEXT, remodeled the station interior. 1.50, NEXT, was ALSO the update to create abandoned systems and their stations.
So the development of "this is what an abandoned station looks like" was happening before the new model of space station went live.
So when they designed abandoned space stations, the old model was the current model.

TYVM everyone! this is my first, had no idea thy existed. I have 845 hours of game play logged, and this is the first time I've seen one. And I *always* visit the space station when I enter a new system.
