Can be bought from some Galactic Trade Terminals or Ship Traders.
Can be mined from crystalline/amorphous asteroids.
As a secondary element in some minerals in caves.
By destroying freighter cargo
So, no there are no deep deposits that you can mine.
Most directly, gold+silver=platinum. But that cuts into the gold+silver+platinum=nanite cycle which is the biggest reason to get large amounts of platinum (and is probably why platinum mines aren't a thing).
Geodesite and Iridesite can be refined into a large amount of platinum, and their component alloys can be refined into gold and silver to yield greater net returns at the expense of refining time. Those alloys are made with cobalt, ferrite, and the planetary minerals.
Chromatic metal, ferrite dust, and oxygen can be refined into platinum at a 250/1/1 to 10 ratio. Even with an activated indium mine this is a terrible ratio but it's a decent way of getting rid of chromatic and activated metals from other sources. Frigate expeditions and starship sales tend to drown you in the stuff.
