Dreams of the Deep mission - issue
So this mission seemed to randomly appear in my log and so I decided to go on it. The first part requires you to locate a distress call which leads to an abandoned facility and gives you an underwater breathing module from the computer, great! However the second part leads you to an underwater, crashed submarine, which, once you "claim" it it makes it your primary ship. My issue is that I don't have the resources to repair said ship so it can't fly and my starship that got me to this planet has disappeared. I have a capital ship, which is probably where my main ship has gone but how do I get that back and come back for this submarine later? Right now, the only solution I've found is to reload a previous save and come back when I've found a solution!

That thing you found it's not a submarine, but a ship. The only sub in the game is the Nautilon and you have to build it yourself.
You should be able to call your original ship with the quick menu.

There are many pit falls in that quest for a noob. You can reset it and come back to it later when you have more experience.

What I usually do for Abyss is to mark the underwater location with a save beacon. If possible, I will rename the system to something memorable like Abyssal System.

Usually you have to park your regular ship on a small island near the underwater site. I will claim the underwater broke ship and then swim back to my regular ride and get in/get out to make it prime.

I will create a base at the nearest power hotspot to the site. Now I have the ability to teleport in and out. I have been lucky and seems like I can have a combo above water and below water base thanks to islands near the power hotspot.

So now I can just do the Abyss mission in a relaxed fashion and not have to worry I am going to lose track of it somehow.

Not sure if this is a bug, but when I recently did this questline on my permadeath save, once I had claimed the underwater ship and since | too did not have the resources to fix it in my pockets, I went back to a nearby island and tried to call my other starship but could not, instead I got the message that my ship was damaged. Ir wasn't, and yes I was in the call a different star ship bit of the quick menu. I had two choices, try to find the resources to fix the new ship locally or find my old ship the hard way. Since I was on an almost entirely water planet and hadn't gone too far yet I managed to find my other ship.

I have not tested whether this inability to call a different ship once you have claimed a damaged one, but it seemed to have applied the inability to launch status from the current ship to both of my others.

Perhaps a quick workaround would be to deploy a save beacon besides your main ship before setting off to find the underwater signal.
