The game was designed from the ground up to use the PS4 DS4 controller as the primary input device. KB and Mouse was bolted on after the fact and is a poor substitute for using the default control input device. (Any PS4 or Xbox Style GamePad)
I use an Xbox One Elite Controller on my PC for NMS and it works great. Actually better than a DS4 does because of all the additional paddles and customizable buttons etc. Not to mention a QUERTY chatpad keyboard attachment so I can access all the keybindings as well.
The flight model is also designed for GamePad, so those using KB and Mouse are cheating themselves out of the intended feel and maneuverability of the ships in the game.
I tried KB and Mouse once... Horrible feel. Horrible lack of immersion with anything you are controlling.
Its obvious when you compare the two side by side, that a GamePad is how the game is intended to be played.
This.
It's amazing really, for a lot of us we pretty-much grew up with controllers in our hands and so it's as natural as anything else.
Just wait, eventually non-touch input will be relegated to us old dinosaurs still using external peripherals, hehe...
I managed to play through Fallout 3 on Xbox using an Xbox controller, so I got used to it after a while. But it just never felt as comfortable as mouse-and-keyboard. Part of it is, I think, I don't expect resistance from the control device; i.e., muscle memory comes into it.
Double this... I think it's just what you are acustomed to.
