When using my couple of large refiners and a medium on my freighter, by standing slightly further back and being careful to click on each refiner dead centre I can just about manage to interact with both input and output, they both are just about half on my screen.
I have never put any mods in or attempted to use the editor - too risky in games that are still subject to significant updates IMO.
Unfortunately they have the absolute worst UI designers, Quality Control teams and mod support in the whole gaming industry.
So it is up to us Players to figure out how to make it playable. And of course, after being burned once we'd be stupid to ever pay for another one of their titles or expansion. The probably already know this, and it is likely the reason why they don't charge for updates.
