I wish small cursor would be integrated. Seriously, why is that circle so damned big?
But this game could really use more to do with camera controls...
What do you lose...? I only play in 3rd person.
Actually 3rd person view is way more informative about your character status. You can see behind your and see relation of your body to different objects. It is just like real life experience in sense that you have complete feeling of situation, can use your peripheral vision to get your surroundings.
You lose all that extra information in 1st person - just "rat in the box" experience. Granted there are some rare situations where 1st person view can be better, mostly because camera behaves weirdly when there is not enough room. But once you get used with 3rd person view you never want to switch back.
I play nms in 3rd person view and it just doesn't work for some ships.
For example the Expeditions Golden Vector is fine but the free S-class explorer is so tall that it blocks too much of the view.
What is worst is that NMS API support is far too flakey and there is no clear indication as to what mods work with what versions of the game. It makes using mods with NMS impractical.
NMS needs better mod support and an in-game searchable mod bank.
Guess it depends on my mood. I'm not exclusive to 1st or 3rd person as I use both. I like 3rd person to check out my ride, see the different trail types/colors, easier to take screenshots, which I take a ton of with 360 cam.
The mix of comments so far is kind of what I expected. I think a lot of people just don't even realize how much camera control elevates this game to a whole other level.
One of the coolest things happens when a patch breaks a camera mod. When using pulse drive the camera pulls back incredibly far away from your starship which creates a much more heightened sense of speed. I understand the comments of losing information or comparing it to a race car game when your starship takes up so much of the screen and the camera is just locked to it.
They should have some form of nitro for your pulse drive to travel faster with a meter burn, incorporate burning different gases, etc.
Controller directional pad to scroll through items? It may not matter to everyone, but I know I would love this.
Dark space option, Rotating planets, effects, fast actions, so many I want to list. There's a good 50 mods I'd say from when NMS first came out to now that I've loved. So many are dead because of the patches breaking them. I feel like this is such a wasted opportunity by Hello Games. Like Fienyx mentioned above, why not integrate these things? Obviously you know it can be done and would think are not as difficult to what they have proven they can do. Maybe even grow the community itself, which is pretty small sadly.
So I don't think that's a viable solution either. Just saying. :)
