Help Me Understand...
With all the incredible updates and support for this game over the years, how is it possible that the camera is still locked behind your ship in third person?

The 360 camera mod for NMS changes the entire experience. I can't understand why I have to rely on a modder to update his mod after every patch just to want to play the game. There is no turning back.

Do people just not realize what they're missing or not care as much as me?

Camera control just all around the board... be nice to zoom in & out Fallout/Skyrim style in 3rd person too. Massive expanse of the universe... let me look at it from the rear view mirror too. Camera angles and position can also dramatically change the speed your starship looks to be going.

I don't get it.

There are so many mods that would just be so nice to have become integrated. I don't use 3rd person, but I understand the want to decide where from behind there you want to look from.
I wish small cursor would be integrated. Seriously, why is that circle so damned big?

Definitely something I can get behind, can't stand not being able to look at my ship without going in to photo mode.

Despite pulling off the game as of now. I think the devs are still amateur grade. They couldn't conceive such features unless they were looking to actively QoL the game. Modders come from all directions each with individual ideas and experiences. Pitting some random infinite talents from all walks of life against the devs wouldn't be fair.

But this game could really use more to do with camera controls...

You lose way too much information in 3rd person view. I can't use it all.

What do you lose...? I only play in 3rd person.

I play in VR most of the time when I play but I can understand the 3rd person view when in normal mode due to being able to see all around the ship while flying in atmosphere. The scanner sometimes just will not pick out the building close by while flying over.

Never use 3rd person myself, always looks stupid same as those who race cars from 3rd person.

Actually 3rd person view is way more informative about your character status. You can see behind your and see relation of your body to different objects. It is just like real life experience in sense that you have complete feeling of situation, can use your peripheral vision to get your surroundings.

You lose all that extra information in 1st person - just "rat in the box" experience. Granted there are some rare situations where 1st person view can be better, mostly because camera behaves weirdly when there is not enough room. But once you get used with 3rd person view you never want to switch back.

For the same reason we can't use the Xbox controller in VR mode: the devs don't care what people want, just what they feel like doing.

I can't even warp to a new galaxy in VR once at the core and that since it was launched FOR VR I have to switch to flat screen to do that part ..

I have to agree.

I play nms in 3rd person view and it just doesn't work for some ships.

For example the Expeditions Golden Vector is fine but the free S-class explorer is so tall that it blocks too much of the view.

What is worst is that NMS API support is far too flakey and there is no clear indication as to what mods work with what versions of the game. It makes using mods with NMS impractical.

NMS needs better mod support and an in-game searchable mod bank.

The topic is talking about ship's view. 3rd person works fine when you are on foot.

I loose immersion in 3rd person. Do I want to play an arcade game or be *in the ship*

Guess it depends on my mood. I'm not exclusive to 1st or 3rd person as I use both. I like 3rd person to check out my ride, see the different trail types/colors, easier to take screenshots, which I take a ton of with 360 cam.

The mix of comments so far is kind of what I expected. I think a lot of people just don't even realize how much camera control elevates this game to a whole other level.

One of the coolest things happens when a patch breaks a camera mod. When using pulse drive the camera pulls back incredibly far away from your starship which creates a much more heightened sense of speed. I understand the comments of losing information or comparing it to a race car game when your starship takes up so much of the screen and the camera is just locked to it.

They should have some form of nitro for your pulse drive to travel faster with a meter burn, incorporate burning different gases, etc.

Controller directional pad to scroll through items? It may not matter to everyone, but I know I would love this.

Dark space option, Rotating planets, effects, fast actions, so many I want to list. There's a good 50 mods I'd say from when NMS first came out to now that I've loved. So many are dead because of the patches breaking them. I feel like this is such a wasted opportunity by Hello Games. Like Fienyx mentioned above, why not integrate these things? Obviously you know it can be done and would think are not as difficult to what they have proven they can do. Maybe even grow the community itself, which is pretty small sadly.

I saw this done in Space Engineers and that resulted in backlash against the company for stealing ideas from modders.
So I don't think that's a viable solution either. Just saying. :)
