Like Streaker777 has. F'k him.
This is my system as it appears in discoveries while in another system. All good.

This is how the name appears in the teleporter, showing game generated old name:

And when I travel to that system, it then tells me it was discovered by someone else and two of the planets have different names:

What would happen if I uploaded this discovery BEFORE teleporting there?
And finally complaining about a system renamed four years ago seems rather silly.
I mean I get it, it's frustrating when you do all that work and then you re-enter the system and turns out you were trying to edit a previously explored system... This happened to me a few times in Expedition because the upload server kept taking naps.
Why did the game chose to tell me all this after teleporting to the system and not, you know, in MY discoveries screen?
I've uploaded my discoveries now. Better not happen again.
Discovering a planet or system doesn't allow you to claim anything. If you want to claim something you have to put a base computer down and then you get the 300 or so distance units around it and that's it.
When I am system hopping I don't scan everything in all systems usually. I come in and complete my objectives. If I'm doing a delivery mission I go to the planet where the delivery is and make the delivery. Depending on what else I have to do I may or may not scan anything on that planet. When I'm ready to end my play session I upload all discoveries. If I was the first player to discover that system and it has something that I want to rename about that system I may rename it or a planet or 2 in the system. For instance if I find a 24 slot A class multitool in the space station I may add MT24A to the end of the system name when I upload it. If a planet has storm crystals on it I'll add SC to the end of that planet name. If the system has a specific ship design that I may want to come back and try to get later it gets the first initial of the ship type (F, H, E, or X) and another letter or 2 that will remind me what's there when I have time or inclination to go back and get it.
Its not anything malicious its just a different play style. Technically if it was discovered 4 years before you landed there the discovery is actually his and not yours.
Am I able to name planets with the same names I've used before? Since I don't have anything in this system I may was well remove it from my discoveries and wait until I find another and use the same names (and then upload it before someone else claims it!).
login later to see that its explored by someone else, same for the solar system also.
both were uploded
My guess is that the database server is backed up. The is a chance that someone else entered the system and uploaded before you but the data was not refreshed before you entered the system.
Whoever is first in the queue get the name claim.
*edited for spelling.
