I am just in the habit now to mash my mouse button to get through dialog. I think the NMS writers really think they are good (they aren't) and want you to linger on their prose.
You make a quest (like getting the reward)
... there is a big nothing happening for a few seconds,
AND the game start to do stuff again. There is also a delay between having
the item and the quest updating it. Expending base and related quests
are a pain. They ask you to get x item. You get the item... and you need to wait
that the quest update before talking to the npc... and sometime you have
multiple quests that you already have the stuff... so you have to wait...
talk to the npc. Wait until the moment of silence pass, select the other quest,
wait etc...
