Suspicious Samples - Scan Unique Minerals - Target Sweep target inside building
I've been doing faction missions from the space stations, and I'm baffled by this one. I got a Unique Mineral Survey mission that took me down to a spot on a particular planet. I surveyed a bunch of minerals at that location but it didn't generate any credit toward the mission. I noticed that the Visor kept bringing up Target Sweep mode when I had that mission active, so I followed it until I ended up inside a building with the Mineral Survey Location inside a desk inside the building. I can't scan inside the biulding (no big surprise) and the two remaining unique minerals outside the building did not produce any credit for the mission. Speaking with the people inside the building did not provide any mission-related dialog. Interacting with the desk is not possible.

Has anyone encountered anything similar to this? Any tips aside from abandoning the mission?

When I've picked those missions up, I'm normally sent to another star system to do the survey (minerals or plants or animals). Target Sweep is normally involved in finding a specific item or structure of interest. Seems like you might have reached the target for another mission in your log and you're not on the right planet for the Mineral Survey mission.

An interesting theory, but the marker only appears when the quest is active, and the marker is named Mineral Survey Location.
The underlines are all links to screenshots hosted in Steam, btw.

And yes, the mission did take me to another system. It gave a landing location. I eventually concluded that I needed to use Target Sweep, and that brought me inside the building.

Try selecting the Exploration Guide mission in your log then do a Manual Save and reload and see if the behavior changes.

I have had that happen, and the minute I lift off in my ship, I get a new icon for the apprx. location of the mineral survey. As soon as I landed in the new location it gave me credit for all the scanning i had already done.

Still no love.
missions page 2
Mineral mission from page 2 selected doesn't show the marker.

sounds like a bug. im guessing your game is fully updated and they made the target mode more of a requirement than before?

im on a earlier version of the game and usually you can land anywhere on the required planet and scan minerals until you get to the actual mineral site or even finished before you get there.
cancel the mission, jump to another system and try again?

(for me its the repair the broken machinery missions. if its a broken beacon it bugs and wont let me complete the mission. might be mod conflicts though)
Of course this is the answer that I don't want it to be, but it's what I suspect.
Yes, I'm on the latest release and Target Sweep mode is specifically mentioned in the release announcement.

Was it one of the buildings with locked rooms that need an AtlasPass? Sometimes there are minerals in there. I think you can scan them, though they don't show up in discoveries.

Lifted off, flew to the star base, traveled to a base in another system, traveled back to the star base, and it brought me right back to the same building. On the plus side, I noticed an alien tower / artifact exchange site nearby.

Nope. Just one of the small trading posts with a multi-tool vending machine, a Vy'keen walking around, and a Vy'keen behind a counter, none of which had anything to say about the mission.

I must say that I'm impressed by the volume and quantity of suggestions, even if they're not panning out yet. I expected crickets.

Only thing left to do is clear every other mission from the log including that second mineral survey mission. Standing by itself it may make more sense. Crickets are definitely not normal in this forum. : )

Edit: Last resort - go very far away (take a Black Hole somewhere, for instance). The Survey mission should then offer you the option to reset to another, closer star system, where it will presumably behave more normally.

Better suggestion than it seems - clearing the second mineral quest will complete both quests. Unless they changed that in Prisms.

^^^ they did not. I usually wait until I have anywhere from 3 to 5 of those “scan” missions. Land at checkpoint, always do a manual scan (“c”) then scan either a mineral or plant depending on your mission type. Take off & find new marker, land & repeat. Usually only takes two times but I’ve had some go up to 4 markers.
