Pets' behaviour (observations)
Lets create a little chat and share the experience that we accumulated, how certain creatures behave, what they tend to do on their own? How close they follow you? How long they stay in one place? Do they feed on their own, and if yes what? Any useful things they are doing at all? Etc.

So far, in my experience...

Personality
-Aggressive
-Hunts other wild animals if hungry.
-Gentle
-...Greets other creatures? Does not feed on its own.*
-Playful
-MIGHT dig up resources if commanded to go somewhere. Honestly no idea what it does.
-Helpful
-Indeed digs up and returns resources when ordered to go somewhere, might do it on its own.
-Devoted
-Stays closer to owner when on the move, or when commanded to go somewhere.
-Independent
-Tends to 'scout ahead' (no clear idea what its good for).
-Travels noticeably further from owner when commanded to go to a certain direction.

Interaction
-Trust can be earned with inducating an egg and daily summoning.
-At 100% trust...are they supposed to be tradeable?
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2415352427
-An egg can be only inducated in the pets natural climate.
-Although your pet cant die, it will despawn if recieves too much damage (hazard plants, firestorm...)
-If you are riding your pet, you will be basically resistant to terrain bumps and such, but getting in a tornado will yeet you up in the sky, but the pet will remain on ground.
-You cant milk your own pet (why???)
-*If the player is attacked by a wild animal, your pet will attempt to HUNT down the attacker, REGARDLESS of any trait it might have, and when done (its a one-hit-kill), it will FEAST on it, refilling its hunger bar.

Growth
-1st baby stage
-Labeled as infant/young/juveline...
-Cant lay eggs
-The smallest goofiest form
-2nd teenager stage
-Labeled same as 1st stage
-They now can lay eggs
-They still retain kid like appearance such as large heads, but themselves are also bigger
-3rd adult stage
-Labeled as adult/mature/elderly...
-Can lay eggs
-Fully developed form and appearance

Equipment
-Yes. You can put toy-things on them :'D

I started a new save because there was some potential that the companions could be useful early game.

They do, rarely, give you a gift that resolves into $1.7M in my case. This is pretty helpful when it is equivalent to your current credit balance.

The mining they do is not that helpful. They scout ahead, but so far mine have not really reported anything useful. They do not appear to help you in any way if you get in a fight with sentinels. I have yet to run into a red claw critter, but got a feeling they are not going to be much help there either.

Unless you slow way down, they disappear if you travel anywhere via jet pack...or if they haven't spawned out, they are so far behind to be useless.

So at the end of the day, they provide gifts that are pretty sweet, but other than that, they appear to just be for fun. I hatched an egg and that was amusing to see a smaller version of the original critter. I am not sure if they grow as time goes by, but they do require care and feeding.

I get annoyed with them getting in front of me when mining or scanning so about five minutes is the most I can take of the cuteness.

Yeah, when following you they tend to get in your way and hinder your ability to interact with objects.

I have a giant cat (1st gen) that is as big as I am... he's cool, but I haven't played with him much.

1.7m gift? Sounds good for sure, didnt happen to me yet, but smaller gifts definitely. Well, Im a bit dissapointed that although I have an aggressive feline predator, it does nothing about incoming threats such as another predator, hazard plant etc. Devoted pets are cute for sure, but as you said, that over attachment block your vision for scanning and such. Looks like an independent, helpful and aggressive creature is what it is going to be your true companion in all kind of situation when you need things...only need to watch out it might hunt down another creature for breakfast.

As behavior go, what I thought was a bit much is the fact that if you feed any animal they will go out of their way, run after you if you try to get away just to poop in front of you.... did they have to program that part???

It's free Faecium, they're helping you build those Stasis Devices. You should thank them.

On the note about companion aggression, I've tested this now with about 20 different hostile creatures, none of them have attacked a plant or dealt with another hostile creature once tamed. They totally ignore hostile plants and creatures alike, even with their initial behavior being Warlike or Hyper-Vicious.

While i like the update, and that shouldn't be ignored. I don't believe the aggressive creatures are acting as intended.

Funny thing I noticed is that when you sit on the ground, your pet will sit with you and rest. He will periodically get up to go get you a gift though before laying back down. It only works on certain animals though that have 4 legs from what I can see, the others stay near you and kinda bow their head. nothing major but I found this really cool.

Exactly, they need finetuning. A truly aggressive pet would be like a tamed lion, loyal to the owner, but good luck for anything thats trying to get close.

I have a agressive dino that kill things from time to time (plants and sometimes other animals) but it's so rare it happen, that most of time i forget his personality trait, hope they fine tune them to really show this agressivity.

I also have a cat/dog pet with the Playfull and Independent traits, in this one, the pesonality really shows, most of the time she's running around, folowing and greeting other creatures, and, sometimes even runing from me, as if wanting to play "catch" or something XD

Not much to tell about my pets so far. I have this creature that looks sort of like crab on top and has these tentacles on the bottom that like floats and hovers over the ground. I don't think I can ride it but it stays so close to me all the time.

Another pet looking sort of "Ewok" like with antlers stays close at times but likes to wander off out of curiosity or whatever.
I have this multi-shroom pet that I can ride, but the ride is not very smooth! It like jumps as it moves. I get tired of that after a little while. It also likes going towards creatures sort of like it and greeting it(on it's own homeworld).
