That said, I only play X with a metric ton of QoL fixes/tweaks to make it tolerable, and E:D has always been a giant broken mess. It's sort of expected. ;)
The game was originally designed in "C class"....before there were classes. The NPCs were never really scaled up from C class so the only way to have anything approaching an even match is to fight on their terms.
The only scaling up is now we get more pirate sorties and (hard to be sure) but it seems like the three star ones are a bit better at aiming...at least I seem to take more hits on those.
