Talk about a NECRO thread.
Why not do some research before bumping an 18 month old thread?
The Space station scrap dealer has the Wriggling Companion for trade or the last Twitch event drop had it too.
I place them all over the Freighter as markers. They are so cool!
I did some searching in the wiki, and I read this on the page:
"Terrifying Sample is one of several types of Artifacts and it is a reward for opening Large Artifact Crates found in Ancient Ruins.
They can also be obtained from several varieties of Space Encounters. Keeping this item when obtained in this way can cause the space encounter that awarded it to keep spawning without warning, dropping you out of pulse drive involuntarily."
From what I've gathered from this, the artifact looks like it does nothing when obtained from Ancient Ruins and is essentially just a treasure for a small puzzle, but when obtained during a Space Encounter it seems like it can be used as a tool for repeating that Space Encounter if you found it profitable/enjoyable.
This might explain why so many people find it to do nothing, but why some people might have experienced it triggering some "uncommon occurance".
