xbox game pass game better performance than steam versions.
It seems there is a definite difference in performance in games on gamepass compared to steam.

taking no mans sky for instance using the exact same settings on each the steam version is unplayable due to stutter and hitching while the gamepass version is smooth.

Is microsoft limiting steam on windows now due to pushing their own services or is steam's backend causing added lack now that previously?

Something is not quite right.

even while steam is running the gamepass versions have better performance and are smooth.

MS is not doing that, no.

Close the Steam client window and then start the game.

makes no difference

xbox gamepass version of no mans sky works stutter free. Steams version is unplayable. same settings in game and in nvidia panel, with two separate profiles.

The reviews on GamePass would appear to disagree, with some people saying it's unplayable.

Most reviews on gamepass are either publicity reviews or people trying to run games on their fathers old word processor pc with a green screen. every bad review is for crashing. I have not had a single game crash or even not start on there.

I have now got someone else to test the very same thing and theirs does it also.

I can switch back and forth between games and the gamepass version is the only one that plays smooth enough to be playable.

All gamepass games work on my system perfect even with gsync. The only game on there that was terrible was the outer worlds, which stuttered so badly and looked like a game from the 90's. I uninstalled that one.

Is it the Steam overlay? There can't be too many things that are different between the two versions once they get running, unless Windows is playing funny buggers with gamepass games. Worthy of further investigation.

Did you find a solution to this issue? I've got the same problem! I was playing it on XBox Game Pass but my sub was coming to an end, so I bought the Steam version and no matter what I do, it stutters HORRIDLY, whereas I clocked up 115 hours on XBox Game Pass and it was fine!

(Not the OP but having the same problem.)

Nope, it's not the Steam overlay.

Doesn't matter how much I downgrade the settings, the Steam version is totally unplayable due to pauses and jerks.

I've now got them both installed. I can literally run the gamepass version, see it working fine, close it, run the steam version... totally unuseable.

What on earth is going wrong? Have I just wasted a lot of money?

Gamepass NMS wouldn't even start for me, CTD everytime. Had to buy it through Steam, and it runs smooth.

Looks like it was only getting upset in my base, and even then it cleared up after a few minutes. Maybe a caching issue it seems.

Are you sure your not playing Game Pass via xCloud? If that's the case, you will be playing via a server on GamePass and via your own hardware on Steam.

Good call, but yes I'm sure. :)

10700k, 3060 ti, and 32gb 3200mhz ram here. It's unplayable on Game Pass for me. Good to know it's also unplayable on Steam so I don't waste my money on this half assed game.

Games is smooth as butter for 99.9999% of people. Likely your PC is just badly setup.

i noticed a problem with the fps limiter when i changed the limit on the steam version and it made the game much smoother for me.
