I keep getting side tracked
First I'm doing one quest, then when I've barely begun I always find myself attracted to some new thing I can harvest or build or interact with, or just get a wild hare to jump to a new system for the inventory space. Right now I'm barely entering mid-game and I suddenly start serious base building. They should rename this game Sidetracked in Space.

That reminds me I still have to finish adding on a room that I started some time ago.

I did that too building my base, it's starting to look like a whole city now, I built a room for batteries and one for solar panels it took some time to build and connect everything with a door and switch, got sidetracked with something else right after and FORGOT to save before leaving the game AAAAAAH!... Got back in only to see everything I did was gone or should I say never existed.

I've got about 75 hours in a survival session. Just now getting to the point of Story to be able build stuff like Exocraft. Spent most of that time just grinding to get my Exosuit Inventory maxed out. Found (actually more than one) vendor that sold the Drop Pod Coordinates and just maxed out on those. They occur at both the large and small planetary Outposts.

If anybody is really wanting to get a vendor that sells that stuff. Friend me and I can get you to the coordinates.

Don't worry, Bullwinkle (love that name btw), at least 50% of us are right there with you. I start with a plan for the day like "I'm going to do that weapons quest today that my weapons specialist asked for" and suddenly it's "oh there's a crashed freighter, I need to check out those pods" and while I'm doing that I see some buried technology on my scanner, so I go check those out, and then I find a drop pod, so I get that inventory slot, and I can't help myself but to do a little exploring, and suddenly the day is over and I still never did what I started out to do. lol I think @Deadly Peanut hit the nail on the head when he said you're filling the basic design premise of the game. It's not like a lot of games that have just one linear approach to playing the game. The free-style "follow whichever quest you want or just play without paying attention to the quest line at all" is part of what I love about this game! You do you. :lunar2020hearteyesrabbit:

Since none of the quests are required and mostly a waste of time, I would say you are doing exactly what you should be doing.

For me, the following shiny things part of the game is what keeps it fresh. I always start each session with a plan...and sometimes even complete the first task.:steamhappy:
Now you know how a cat with a ping-pong ball feels.

Everything works the same.... you need to fix yourself objectives and stick to them.
Set then split big/long/difficult objectives into medium, then medium into small easy to reach objectives, and focus on completing them one at a time.
Ignore anything that doesnt follow the small objective you are currently following and your progress should skyrocket.

The secondary missions help you to get your empire on the feet. And if one mission gets stuck, change to another missions and come back to the first mission later. So there is always something to do.
Sooner or later every mission can be accomplished. Happy gaming !

Wait a sec, there are missions in this game?
Darn I was so busy travelling to see what I could dig up on the other side of that hill/mountain/lake/volcano/shiny hex dome
I really must start paying attention.
