Freighter “base building”
Can anyone explain what you do to build on your freighter? I’ve never constructed rooms (other than the mission console room) on my freighter because why? What’s the point of rooms or floors or any extra building?

Does anyone here have ideas for improving the base part of your freighter? Or even ideas as to how you use the freighter? Honestly in general I find the freighter pretty pointless, and I rarely visit it. But am I missing something?

The 10 storage containers are great. They provide additional pages of storage for stuff you can access remotely with the upgrade as long as the freighter is in your current system. I also put a portal there, a save point, a galactic terminal and the NPC stations.

Can you tell me what the upgrade is that allows you to access the freighter storage while on a planet surface?

Oh thanks. I’ll get that. You make me realize that I’ve never really upgraded any technology on my freighter, maybe that’s my problem.

For me the freighter was a mid game tool. Once upgraded it became a true mobile base, even becoming better to use to traverse the galaxy than black holes. It's still a great mobile base but once you get an exotic explorer at 2-3k per jump with incredible warp fuel efficiency, that becomes the only tool to sprint towards the center with.

Once you can get the matter beam, life gets a lot better with a freighter. You can pull or put into your individual storage containers pretty easy.

Pick up an item you want to move to a storage container..click on the freighter and use E to move through containers until you see the one you want and just drop it in. Works the same way when moving from container to suit.

Use the C command once you pick something up and it will auto-halve it so you can be more precise about what you need or what you want to store.

Unless you are not organized, you can name the containers to make it easier.

For me:
0 farm plants and catalysts.
1 Odds and Ends
2 Metals
3 Nutrition
4 Overflow/not used
5 Crafting items
6 Gases
7 Craft rocks
8 Water stuff
9 Not used

Another big plus is you can create the exocraft summoning room in the freighter and call in any exocraft anywhere as long as the freighter is in system.

The best is you can craft items without pulling the items from storage. Saves a lot of time when making high value items.

Be aware that calling in your freighter to red, green and blue star systems will not work unless you have the appropriate color matching hyper-drives installed as well. The best way to get the salvage frigate data is to attack the cargo pods on other freighters in the system as those pods often hold salvage frigate data. When you get close enough to the pods, a descriptor will pop up showing what the containers hold. You can shoot the containers for what's in them and will not loose standing with that systems race. If you shoot the support vessels around the freighters then you will loose standing. When you attack the freighter the sentinels will send out a ship to stop you but you don't want to attack it as it will only draw more to your location. With good shield upgrades you should be able to get most everything you want with minimal damage taken.

Mobile base for my travels and exploration. Farming, storage, garage, cooking, crafting, repairs, frigate expeditions. Even have an Appearance Modifier on board.

Aye, all base essentials in mine as well. A huge convenience. I dunno what I'd do without it.

Mobile base and space craft hangar.

Upgrade the drives and call it to any system you plan on hanging out in for a while.

No weird terrain problems and no nosy sentinel neighbors.

We just need some larger turrets and more space battles and we're set.

Yeah, this one is key. You have access to every storage bay as if the items were in your exosuit. The other nice upgrade is the one that lets you call any of your exocraft.

Aye, that was definitely a welcome feature, especially when you hoard and organize materials. What's great is Trade terminals won't access storage containers, making it easy to sell off excess.

Thanks for this info. I’d been flying by these for many play hours not realizing they were an exploitable resource. Now I know how to upgrade my freighter.
