Pipe decoration won't snap anymore
I'm building a new base at the moment. It's more or less symmetrical and I already used the pipes on one side of my base as support struts stacked 8 times and they snapped in position without any problems. Now I try to build the second support strut on the other side, but the pipes don't snap anymore. The game even tells me 'unable to build/invalid position'. Already tried to enable/disable snapping... nope. Reloaded the auto save... nope. Reloaded the manual save... nope. Restarted the game... nope!

Any tips?

Are you referring to the cylinder adornments or the actual piping used with harvesters? If the former, I'd need to see your build to know what's up but hopefully someone else can chime in with a fix. In the mean time, are there any di-hyd crystals or condensed carbon or anything of the sort in the vicinity of that new support structure? Those keep you from building as well as some flora that pokes through the ground in experience. Are you trying to build through a surface such as a floor? If so is it perfectly symmetrical? There's also certain build techniques that only work in certain orientations without the use of glitch building, such as placing stairs over floors. Sorry I can't really offer anything solid.

Yes, it's the cylinder adornments. I started the same way as I built the first strut without any clipping/glitching into other parts etc. The problem is, that I can place one pipe, but the next one on top or underneath won't snap. I can't even build them with snapping disabled.

The first strut is this...

The other parts 'intersecting' the strut I built after it was finished!

This may be a pain until someone with a better solution comes along but have you tried curved pipes to offset your beam, run it until it starts snapping in place then meeting your column from the ground up, or will it let absolutely nothing snap to it? Spheres and cubes may also do the trick.

That's the 'funny' thing about it! Cubes, spheres and pyramids snap in... pipes and curved pipes don't! Snapped in a cube, built a pipe underneath/on top, deleted the cube and wasn't able to build a pipe where the cube was! I absolutely have no clue why! And it doesn't even matter where I try to build it... it doesn't work. But when I delete parts of the first strut, then everything works fine.

That's weird. You didn't hit your local or global build limit by chance, did you? It's hard to explain but what I meant with the curve, cube or sphere pieces is build out and away from your original column piece, build up or down down a piece or two, bring it back in under your column then continue with the cylinders. Once that's to the ground delete all the curve, sphere or cube pieces you used to "bypass" then see if it'll let you build back up to the original cylinder. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for your help! :steamhappy:
I don't know why, but it worked now. I built on another part of my base for a while and gave it a next try and it worked. It was a little bit fiddly with different parts rotating, moving, deleting... but it worked. I will definitely not try this again! :steamhappy:

...and no... no base limits! It's a new base. Only the building, no interiors and the base computer is right in the middle between the two struts!

HG messed up a lot with construction in this game with the last update. Things that used to snap together no longer do, you just have to work around things now, or do it another way.

I hope they will fix this and don't make it a permanent 'feature'! ;)
