You can use the NMS Save Editor to alter the number of slots available. (up to 8 x 6 for 48 slots)
Warning: Using NMS Save Editor can damage your game-play experience as you can give yourself ANYTHING
Long ago I noticed it looked like they could be 5x5 but never found a way in game to increase them. When I started using the save editor it let me make them 5x5 but no larger.
Now the save editor will let you make them 8x6. Still can't find a way in game to expand them. Seems silly for HG to expand the potential but not the ability. Maybe it was an unintended change in an update. I don't trust that it won't change back.
I would like to expand them in game. However, fear SE expanding them, placing stuff in the new slots that could disappear and loosing valuable inventory if another change is rolled out.
Honestly, the only thing I need expanded space for is cooking ingredients. I will SE the two storage boxes I use for those and the ingredient storage itself and see how it goes. If it changes back, no great loss. I really don't need more storage for other stuff anyway. Early game this expanded storage would have been very useful though.
I don't know either.
we have a lot of storage. you have 6 ships with 48 slots each, 10 storage units with whatever, all the exocraft with another bunch, and your bag, which is fairly large too. Back in my day sonny, we had to store it all in one ship and one backpack page uphill in the snow both ways!
But storage should not cost so much that it need to be limited. Craft a container with some number of slots, and stuff it full, make another... pile it deep. plenty of modern games do it this way. I suspect it has something to do with the weird idea that all the containers are linked instead of distinct. That probably caused them to make it limited, however that works.
Storage modules/exosuit tech slots/and multiple exocraft that could all be separate rewards. That's at least good for another five expeditions, ten if they were smart and did something different in between.
