Ladder placement
So far the only place I've been able to place ladders is in the center of a prefab circular or square module or small cube. What is frustrating is that they really get in the way when you are trying to move around. Ideally it would have been nice to place a ladder on the SIDE of a prefab module but sadly it does not work that way.

What is the best way to place ladders between levels so that it is both rapidly accessed and unobtrusive?

Better yet... is there a youtube guide about it?

My way of dealing with those are either local teleports for small bases or stack of round prefabs to use for ladder only - that way I can walk around the floors without being caught by any of the ladders...

Local teleports are good alternatives to ladders, I got tired of trying to run past a ladder and auto-climbing it instead.
You can put a ladder in a cuboid room and place that room object in the corner of a larger room. Short range teleports are useful and easy to place in position too. You can also rotate the ladders before placing them that can help movement. The cuboid rooms also have a staircase object for reaching a second level.

I don't like the snapping action to the ladder if you walk too close to them. Somehow that seems too severe. There still is the bug too that can have your character climb in 'air' on an invisible ladder if sometimes you turn while climbing. And you can climb down through terrain or up through it, which to be fair has helped me escape from an underground gltich so that is a useful bug either by design or not.

Ladder climbing could do with an overhaul. Or at least make climbing ladders consistent without ad-hoc bugs occuring affecting character movement.

The pictures below were snapped some time ago and things have improved but these bugs can still occur or may offer workarounds to achieve the effect you want.

I was climbing down a ladder to the last room in a derelict freighter and went through the floor into space, I nearly broke my W key trying to get back up.

I just figured out a way to do move the ladders out of the pre-built rooms:

- Assuming rooms are stacked.
- 1 segment of corridor going out in the direction of the ladder (for each level).
- 1 small cubical room vertical stack to hold the ladders. (as Buzz said as I was typing this :) )

This way you never come across the ladders unless you want to, and you always approach them face on so that you jump on them directly.

oh LOL. Perhaps the rendering was slow to complete the room you were climbing into. Glad you survived to tell the story :D
