Paradise Planet ... not
I did a scan and I found a paradise planet. "Cool" I thought. No ... when I landed, it was a verdant planet with broiling humidity. Went back into space and sure enough, the scan falsely tells me it's a paradise planet. *shattered*. I sulked and went to bed

Paradise planets have storms of boiling water, that's normal.

"paradise" is just flavor text for tropical / lush planets. It doesn't mean there are no storms.

Yeah, don't be too shattered. Warp a few more times and you'll find a "Verdant planet" or 'Paradise' or "Bountiful" or similar named planet that has "beautiful" or "blissful" or other some such weather that has no storms for you. :)
It's all proceduraly generated within certain confines, so it's going to be random chance as to what the title says it is, and then what the actual conditions are on the surface.
No worries. The randomness is all part of the exploration!

This used to be more true. For the past month (two?) all planets listed as Paradise have had good weather, low sentinel activity, and almost always "friendly" fauna. I have landed on a lot of them so chance is highly unlikely. Temeprate, tropical, overgrown, ... these have bad weather (usually).

This may be more true now than in the past, but as this game is so enormous... obviously experience will vary. I've been warping like a madman on a new save since two days ago and have found around 20 various paradise type planets. I would say at least 1/4 of them have some type of harsh weather type as well. Which is far better than the over half of them I used to get to be sure... but it is still a far cry from 'highly unlikely' in my latest save.
So I would still caution to not be alarmed or feel like your game is broken or something. It can and does happen that paradise type planets have storms.

Well, I guess I must have been lucky in my 550 hours of play. This is the first time I have come across a paradise planet that isn't. If it said "Paradise Planet" it was exactly that. No bad weather at all ... until now. If it's a verdant planet, it should say "Verdant Planet" from space IMO

Yeah I had one of these in my last save. It was perfect, although I had to travel to other planets to do most of the missions as the abandoned part meant the planet had no buildings. MY point is, if it's a verdant/bountiful/temperate or whatever planet, it should come up as just that when I scan it ... NOT paradise. I don't think I'd like to be laying in the sun only to be cooked by a random violent storm. Paradise planets to me have always been "a paradise".

Seems like you were blessed by the RNG gods, since for me most paradise planets have scalding storms... or angry sentinels.

Rainy
Verdant
Tropical
Viridecent
Paradise
Temperate

Overgrown
Flourishing

useful tip: when scanning planets, look for if the system's stellar element is activated or not. for example Activated copper, Indium and such. when the elements are activated, means the planet has extreme conditions, which on lush planets, means lots of storms.

TLDR: if the planet has Activated elements, its stormy as hell

I've seen paradise planets with only boulders on the surface... depends on your definition of paradise right but in other places it looked like this
Btw I renamed that one Planet Hawaii loll

This is an underrated tip. I just noticed this too recently. Having regular/non-activated element does not guarantee clear weather though, but if storms present, its definitely not harsh.

So, in summary, what everyone is saying is if I scan a planet and it comes up as a paradise planet, it could still have storms that will kill me? If so, then it's really a futile exercise to scan from space at all. I actually have to visit the planet and scan. Not something I've had to do in the past, but there it is. BUT .. my question still remains. If I land on a planet and scan and it comes up as a verdant planet, why didn't it tell me that from space?

Look at Knowledge Seeker's post again. You do see Verdant from space; that tells you what sort of plants and minerals you'll find. You only see weather, the second list, on the ground.

It may have been a lag in the online server. Maybe once you discovered it by landing on the ground, the server updated. Verdant is still a "Paradise" type of planet.
