Not sure what is happening for you. I can only guess you are playing with MP on and met up another player and somehow it setting your parameters with their parameters.
I know some folks live for MP, but I turn it off for doing the main missions. It just causes too much external chatter in the system.
Put in a bug report with Zendesk whatever you do. That should not happen regardless of MP.
The drive BP is handed out during the steps of the mission. On step after starting the base is to go to the space station and talk to NPCs. They trigger the next step and you return to the base via the teleport. You get the location of a crashed freighter where you get the hyperdrive BP.
A year ago the steps may have been a little different, today a new option is turn off the tutorial in settings and you should get the BP.
Yes, I did all that up to the end of your 1st paragraph; the location of the crashed ship it gave me is in another star system so I cannot get to it, since I need the hyperdrive it's supposed to give me in order to get to it at all. I just recently had a friend find a crashed starship for me, he repaired it and it had a hyperdrive, but it left a copy, so I repaired it and there was no hyperdrive. We tried a bunch of workarounds to get me a hyperdrive but had no progress.
I think it could be because I joined my friend's hosted game while I had this mission active and it might've placed the objective in his system, but since I'm trying to unlock all the basics at the system I started my first base in, I warped back, and the other system's space station teleporter never got added to my list of teleportable locations (got any tips for that one? I'm stuck there too and if my mission is in my friend's system, it would make this whole thing much easier if I could warp there from my base).
I did not know about the tutorial part. Thank you, I'll try this later today. Like I alluded to earlier, I was trying to get a hyperdrive for about 4-5 hours or so last night with my friend and ended up giving up and resolving to starting a new save in my next session and doing the crucial early story missions solo-only to prevent issues like this. I had no issues like this on PS4 when I last played a few updates ago, but then again that was solo play.
But you may have just saved me from scrapping about 12 hours of progress, so thank you again. I'll update if it works.
If you skip the tutorial you get the BP's at the start. Unless you really want to do the tutorial I'd suggest skipping it. MP does mess with your locations, it's been that way for a while.
Bummer. You will probably need to restart. You are not far enough away from the mission system to restart it. Without the BP, all ships you find will not have a warp drive (even for purchase). And, by starting the mission in a system where you did not visit the space station, it won't be on your list. Do you have any portal glyphs? The only way I can think of to get back to the system is to have your friend I'd a portal and then you use your own portal to get there. That is a many hours task. Unfortunately, a restart sounds like your best option.
But I feel you are at a stage in the Story Mission where you NEED to build a Warp Drive. Google how to do that. It should be impossible to get stuck, you can always mine more materials or buy what you need from planetary Trade Centers or Space Stations.
Damn tipo, sorry, but thanks for reading and pointing to it :)
