changing your ships skin
Hi guys,

Well I have be playing this game for a couple of days and I am trying to information on how to change the colour/skin of my ships, but after searching the net I still can not find away to change this, I did find one video, but it required two people and that is not an option for me.

So is there a simple way to make these changes?

As of today, pre v4.0 (anniversary release?), only a freighter can be recolored. Your ships & multitools cannot be visually altered in any way.

Given ^^^ that, the preferred ship hunting method is to find the correct color/style ship 1st, then farm the highest class & then upgrade.

Unfortunately, due to the procedural nature of ships in NMS, you cannot change color/skins of any ships owned. The only ships that can have a color change are Freighters.

Most of us either farmed for it (waiting in the space station or planet-side trade station for a model that you like to land in a higher class), or went on the NMS Coordinates Exchange Redit (YouTube video's as well) and visited the location using a portal and farmed for it there.

Using a friend or another player, a ship can technically be exchanged with you (i.e. the Golden Vector, or living ship). This is done by joining a friend's game and meeting them at a space station. They fly in with the desired ship, sell it to an NPC and fly out with whatever they exchanged it for. You then speak to the NPC and get the desired ship from them.

I have heard tales that there are ways to change your ship and/or color using the Save Game Editor. You might google for that.

which can take some players 500 years.

Using the save editor, you can change a ship's skin by changing the ship's seed - there is a library of seeds on the web, and there may be one you prefer there - colour/type but there is no other way to directly change these properties as far as I am aware.

In the beginning I spent a lot of time hunting for very specific ships. I used the coordinate exchange, Facebook posts, save editor seed lists, etc. After a while I would get board with the ship and want a new one. Over time, my ship selection process has changed. Now, instead of hunting specific ships, I just buy ships that appeal to me on my travels.

If you take a screen shot of each ship when you get it, you can always go back later and get it again. The screenshots are kind of like having a warehouse of ships that you can't store in your freighter.

Once you get far enough into the game, and your wealth increases, buying storage and upgrading the ships is easy. I also check almost ever space station for the S class upgrade modules and keep two storage boxes full of the specific ones I want.

The only two ships I keep long term are one explorer with very high warp range and one just for going though galaxy centers with tech only in the tech area.

^^^^ Uranium has solid advice 👍 I have one other ship, usually a fighter for when I feel like slapping some pirates & sentinels around.

If you decide to use Goatfungus Save Editor to change your ship seeds, you'll find those on
https://www.nmseeds.club/Seeds/Search/beyond/ship/
Valid also for freighters, multitools etc ..

Hi guys, first, thank all for all your help with the ship seeds, I am able to find and change the seeds at will, second, I need to know if anyone can tell me where I can find the Priest Entity Nada skin seed, i.e. in game or online?

Depending on the kind of ship, you may be able to re-create your ship in the color you want by finding ships with the right parts (wings, engine, fuselage etc) and then scrapping them for your preferred part. Once you recombine them on a spacestation into a new ship you'll have choice of colors (and in some cases materials)
