Vanishing Repairs!
New to this, so maybe missing something.

Found a wrecked ship and spent the best part of a day collecting repair resources. Completed @ 95% of repairs. Teleported out to collect more spares and when I came back the ship had vanished. Checked this site and found how to recall it using the “X” key.

When I recalled it I found the ship had reset back to it’s original damaged state - all repairs had vanished along with all the resources used to complete them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I’m REALLY pissed off.

Thanks

Not sure this helps, but if it's a crashed starship you only need to fix the launch thrusters and the pulse engine to make it "flyable". Don't know why it vanished or indeed lost it's repairs and parts. Once you claim it, it's yours. All I can say is repair what I said and fly it to the nearest space station.

Any particular reason to fly it to a station? I was planning on using it as I only have the small ship you start with. TAI

OK the short answer is there is no reason normally, but since yours vanished maybe it would be prudent to keep it "on you". What I normally do is find the crashed ship, claim it, jump back into my other ship and fly to the station. The crashed ship shows up there, still damaged and smoking, but there. BUT ... I guess it still doesn't explain the repairs being undone.

I didn’t have a problem recalling it, once I’d found out how to do it. The problem is it cam back reset to it’s original state of damage - all my repairs and resources lost. I assume there’s no way to get them back, but want to know what I need to do to avoid it happening again.

did you interact with (clear) the distress beacon before you left and came back? (just a thought)

Sounds good advice - thanks

No, I deliberately avoided the distress beacon as I had so much else going on I didn’t want to trigger another task/mission!

The only thing which may cause it, you did not make a savepoint after your repairs...
Maybe you did do all the repais from outside the ship.. than you left , without an autosave as that ship was active, with your starter ship...

Interacting with the distress beacon is just a way to tell the game 'yeah, I got this one'. It shouldn't give you any thing else to do other than answer a question or two.

And... save, save, save... often

Not sure if it's the same issues, but the first crashed ship that I found and claimed disappeared after I logged out and logged back in (I had built a small base with a portal next to it to be sure I could find it again). I was really upset until I figured out I could call it back with X (I had to look that up). Also, every time I switched from my starter ship to the new one, the new one did not show any of the half-finished repairs I had already added repair materials to (I thought I was going to have to go back and find the materials again, that would have been unfortunate) until I went ahead and repaired something I knew was still broken, then magically, all of the previous repair materials showed back up. Very frustrating!

Repairing ships is a bit buggy.

I have found that when you travel away after only repairing a portion of a single broken component (i.e. you fixed the antimatter, but still needed the wiring looms) this will sometimes reset to a broken state. Make sure you have all that is needed prior to repairing any particular component.

I still can't believe that after all the posts about this over the years people still don't know about the way ships are handled in the save file.
You don't need to fix everything on a ship prior to flying it. It's just like the first ship, fix the pulse and thruster and you are good to go. Once that is done and it has fuel you can summon it to you anywhere on planet. Don't have to mark it, don't have to make repeat trips to the crash site.

Once you have a freighter whenever it spawns the collection of ships will spawn in it's hanger bay.

If you like the looks of the crashed ship, it's easier to scrap it and just buy one in that system. Crashes will be the same ships that normally spawn in the system. Go to a trading post and just wait and one like it will land.

True there are many that will try to fully repair a derelict ship for their own use. This can be useful especially if you are trying to play true to game or are maintaining a role.

For myself, these are used only to make my initial capital and nanites. I will generally repair the ship in the space station (using the scrap-n-claim method) without reloading a save. Repairing the ship has the added bonus of increasing the value, thereby allowing me to "trade up" as I try to make a minimum of 15m units and 4k nanites. They are eventually scrapped for good.

I just started playing NMS again and the same thing is happening to me, sort of. My ship isn't vanishing, but the repairs undoing themselves AFTER I had saved the game. I hope someone figured something out about this. Hours...gone!

There is a bug where partial repairs don't show properly. Attempt a repair without the materials required and the visuals should fix themselves up.
