system specs?

Maybe you need to wait even longer, when loading the game. That flying-into-the-galaxy-with-names-passing-by, takes a while - depending on system specs. Put the kettle on, make a good cup of tea - and see if the game loads by then. If not, investigate more. :)

That's a loading screen... you have to wait until it finish loading.

unfortunately you can not access basic game settings from the main menu, just from inside the game after you loaded a save or started new... sic.

It can take a very long time sometimes, especially on a new load up and after a big update.
But then it will be faster after that.

shader loading. it can be long sometimes

sometimes mine takes seconds to load the next time it could take many minutes. I think it could depend on what else is running in the background on the PC?

Such BS answers. I just ran into this problem too. I have put 40 hours into the game over the last month and the game usually loads up in 20 seconds on my machine. Today, endless loading screen. I can sit and wait 5 minutes and it's still just stuck there. I tried rebooting, etc. There are plenty of posts in this forum about the same issue, so it's so tiring to see people just say "it takes a while sometimes"..."maybe it's your system"... this is an obvious game bug, OR, the developers have decided not to put in a loading progress bar that would inform you of what's really happening behind the scenes, like some sort of update.

But it takes a while sometimes. SERIOUSLY, on updates especially I've sat through about 4 minutes of load and can hear my hard drive chattering all the while. Not sure what is happening but whatever it is takes time.

Also noticed a full or nearing full hard drive can impact the game.

I just left it for 20 minutes while I went and took a shower... still stuck. Was there an update last night? I was just on last night with no problem.

Close the game, close steam completely - make sure there's nothing steam running on task manager.
Open steam, open game.

Tried that several times, as well as rebooting. From more reading in these forums, it looks like being stuck on the loading screen can indicate a corrupted save file. I was also able to start a new game without getting stuck on the loading screen, so that seems to point in the same direction. I'm following suggestions here now: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/91voi6/fix_for_the_lost_progress_corrupt_save_bug_if_you/?sort=confidence

Ok, so I didn't follow the instructions at that link fully, as I found another solution myself. I backed up the contents of the c:\Users(your username)\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS\st_(a bunch of numbers) folder by copying it elsewhere just in case. Then I deleted the latest save files, which for me were save4.hg and mf_save4.hg. Then I started the game up again and it loaded up, although to a previous save point. This is better than losing everything though, obviously. I also first turned off steam sync for save files, although I didn't close that window, so I'm not sure if it really applied or not.

So get the save editor then. You can open the save in the editor and then just re-save it again. Might fix the file.

Ah, Steam forums. The OP is a week old and he never came back so obviously figured it out, and yet the thread keeps going and going and going.
