Jet pack upgrades not really working?

Just come back and started a new save. Pushed to get the jet pack upgraded, but I feel there isn't much of a difference, even with rocket boots. Am I missing something or remembering wrong how much a difference it should make?

S and X class upgrades make the difference. The first you get from station vendors, The latter obtained from black market vendors who land nearby you on planets. The X class can be better or worse than the S class though.

I've got three S class upgrade modules and I can jet to the top of the huge mesas on my home base planet with fuel to spare where before those three I could only make it about 1/5th of the way up before running out of juice.

i had A and S class tank extension modules. tested with friend. i almost doubled his air time. but i would like to see numbers, i love them.

Don't install the rocket boots, you have to use the melee-jump technique.

The rocket boots are great. You need to make sure your best upgrades are tightly bunched together to get the adjacent bonuses. If you want to try things out to get the best combinations, experiment in Creative mode. You still need to buy or find the S or X class upgrades in every mode. Check too similar class upgrades are next to one another.

You can still use melee boost with rocket boots installed

You just lose finesse with the boots. It is important to me to be sure I land on top of a building or tall rock when there are aggressive critters or sentinels about.
