Is the Cadmium infinite Loop still a thing?
Hey, I'm new to NMS, I just got my first Large Refiner and I read online from like, only a year ago that you can do an infinite loop of Cadmium and Chromatic Metal to multiply your total overall Cadmium. I've tried it a few times now but I can't get it to work? I tried googling if it got Nerfed or changed at some point but can't find anything.

So, was it nerfed? Does it still work?

You can do chromatic expansion on all of the stellar metals, you sure you aren't trying to do it with activated metal? That's probably the issue I would imagine.

Nope, the chromatic expansion exploit got removed in Synthesis.

I could be wrong and someone pleas correct me if I am, but I think now whenever you want to use refiner duping you have to combine the material with oxygen to make more.

how was that considered an "exploit" ? there were many, many refiner chains of materials that got you more than you started with in the end. they really got rid of all of them? that makes no sense why they would do that

Yeah, I needed some more cad, and just refined cad and chromatic metal. You end up with at least twice as much as you start with. It does seem a little odd since then you can make more chromatic metal and start over again.

I am not sure it is a great way to make credits, but nice to not have to go find cad in the wild. I will stick with making the high dollar stuff when I need credits.

I don't know, but they labelled it as an exploit in the patch notes.

How was it considered an exploit that you could make infinite materials? Gee, I have no idea. It's unusual for games to consider a means by which you can obtain infinite materials an exploit.
And yes, I'm being sarcastic. Of course it's an exploit. Do you think it's intended for us to have unlimited resources outside Creative mode?

Serious question: if you want unlimited resources, why not play Creative or cheat outright? What's the point?

"Chromatic Expansion" is still a process available on the medium and large refiners, but I think the yield was cut in half with the Synthesis update. I think it used to be that 1 unit of a stellar metal and 1 unit of chromatic metal would yield 4 units of the same stellar metal; it now yields only 2 units. It can still be useful for expanding your stock of emeril or indium, in particular, but it's far from being the exploit it used to be.

The process has never worked with "activated" versions of the stellar metals.

If you didn't know, combining pure ferrite and a stellar metal in the refiner increases the output of chromatic metal. That can be helpful, especially if you reach a point in the game at which you have a lot of units of rare metal element.

I did this a few days ago and it worked.

yeah for sure, its "unlimited resources" if you have infinite time to invest into it. how does that equate to the same thing? its work. its effort you put into the game to get something back out. and its definitely something that was intended, there are countless refiner recipe chains that give you a better yield than you started with, they wanted players to have this option.

Refiner chains are half of the reason why farming even exists in the game as well so dont give me that exploit crap. according to the post above this one, its still works just yields less now anyway.

developers changing the yields of recipes and such is BALANCE changes not EXPLOIT fixing.

If they wanted players to have the option, why did they remove it?

I'm just trying to wrap my head around your thought process. Developers want players to have something that already exists in the game, so they remove it. It's kinda like when you want to eat a piece of chocolate, so you throw the whole box out.

I just confirmed it is NOT working. Started with 736 Cadmium and 5 Chromatic Metal. Refined half the Cad to CM, ended with 376 Cad and 365 CM. Went to refine again and the result was going to be *only 730 Cad*. I have only been playing since the Synthesis update, so if your save was from before, your refiners *may* still have the exploit, but new saves *will not*.
