Larval Core - need an assist
I hate dealing with swarms of Biological Horrors, they kill me in no time. And there's no Larval Cores available for purchase anywhere in system.

I need a workaround, please. I'm getting desperate.

EDIT: Since many of you are suggesting the sensible solution of "shoot the eggs, grab the cores, jetpack to top of building and wait" let me share my attempts at those.

I tried three times to do that.

Attempted this the first time. Did not work - got killed on my way up to the top of the building.
Attempted a second time. Got killed with core apparently in suit inventory. Core did not appear in inventory when I went back for my body.
Attempted a third time. Got core. Got to ship. Opened suit inventory. Core not present.

My inventory was not full in any of the three attempts. I should have gotten at least two of the three larval cores necessary from this method. They were not present.

Either I didn't pick them up when it said I had them, or they disappeared from my inventory leaving me with a whole lot of work for no gain.

I am forced to conclude that it is a bug. I cannot complete Expedition 3 without the larval cores.

EDIT: Since some of you are confused, this is on Expedition 3, Frontiers update. If I wasn't forced to grab Larval Cores for the "bespoke" starship in the expedition, I would just avoid the swarms and whispering eggs like I do normally.

What I did is used the multi tool to dig a hole under each egg and enough room under the 3 of them to place myself in. Once I was in the hole, I adjusted the hole size so I could see each egg, but the monsters couldn't fall through. The eggs dropped down and I didn't get attacked. I then dug a tunnel to the direction of my ship and waited for the monsters to despawn. It took about 5 min for the last one to go away.

That works, but I may have trouble with the execution.

My method: grab a core, jump in the minotaur, wait for the swarm to subside and repeat.

I usually farm them right off the start of a game if there's a location near my spawn point. Good source of early nanites and units. You can easily farm them with no protection at all at the start just by knowing your jet pack will lift you to the top of the associated building. Typically to farm efficiently at the start, best is to pick a long building ...they have the most larval cores, also the building can act as a partial barrier:
(1) on one long side of a building, open a core, grab it, and jet up to the top of the building
(2) scan the opposite side of the building from the roof: usu. there won't be as many horrors as they are all clustered on thee side you first grabbed a core from.
(3) jump to the opposite side, and usually you can pick off 3 cores before some horrors make their way to the other side. Then jet pack back up to the top of the building where they can't reach you.
(4) scan around for the cluster of cores that has the fewest horrors around it....then fire and jump down to get the core as it rolls around. Fly back up immediately after getting a core.
(5) for the remainder you will have to pick them off 1 at a time, but I rarely take more than 5 mins to completely harvest 20 cores from a building doing it this way.

Larval cores are what I usually mine for early units as I try to grab an S-class right after claiming Artemis' crashed ship.....usually first half hour or so. I also follow the tutorial which will get you a few resources for selling as well, but usually to get a decent S-class ship in the first hour you will need at least 4 million units....easy to do if you sell your starting ship, Artemis's ship, plus the units you get from misc. stuff you mined and harvested....like larval cores.

I jumped onto the roof of the building after grabbing the first core, then moved around the roof popping eggs and dropping down to collect the cores in spots where the Horrors hadn't reached yet. Then just made a B-line to my ship one I had what I needed.

My Method
Break an egg
Die
Respawn
Collect gear

repeat as often as needed!

its not pretty
its certainly not elegant
but it does work....

I plonked down a base computer at the abandoned site, then built wooden walls around each cluster of eggs close enough to them that when the horrors spawn, they clip through the walls and are stuck on the outside. Gathering is safe then.

I hated that part, specially when the things send you flying a mile away.

Put down a base then put close walls around the eggs then farm them without the mobs getting to you

A tip everyone seem to miss is that you don't need to wait until the entire ring of activation is complete, as soon as it begins you can leap (without letting go of the activation button) to the roof of the abandoned factory, by the time it completes and collects it on your inventory you'll be watching the little beasties from the safety of the roof

just watch it cus they sometimes fire projectiles for some reason

just kill them from up the roof .After go outside and get the cores ,repeat ,

I call it the "gamer" method:
1. Break an egg
2. Immediately rush to collect the egg (the mobs take a few seconds to attack)
3. Jump and Jetpack onto the roof of the building, wait until all mobs have surfaced.
3.1 DON'T KILL ANY OF THE MOBS (that way you control where they spawn)
4. Drop down on the other side of the building and break and collect more eggs until the horrible pathing of the mobs somehow leads them over there; No new mobs will spawn from those eggs being broken since the swarm is still "active"
5. Escape onto the roof again and wait out the swarm
6. Repeat from step 1.
#. Profit

Shoot an egg, grab a core, jump to the roof, wait for the swarm to subside. Repeat.
If you want to be more active, shoot, grab, jump to the other side of the building to shoot and grab another. Repeat as you dare.
I'm not good at that. So I generally just grab one and wait.
The challenge I had was just FINDING an abandoned building in Expedition 3. Might have just been my spawn point.

I just completed the larval core a bit ago. I shot egg, jumped over building to other nest. This confuses the horrors back on the other side. For some reason when you shoot the eggs on the opposite they don't spawn a bunch of horrors, so I shot two eggs, grabbed flew to ship, never got hit once. But I get it how for some those rushed things can cause problems.

I'm done except the second Rendezvous, and not seeing it. I'm in the right system as icon shows in galaxy map, but no icon on any planets in the system like rendezvous 1.

I haven't found one abandoned building yet... Used every dang chart I've had, puttered around every planet - not one... Don't even want to get started on the other issues with this particular expedition.
