Station Override Key (spoiler)
I got this AI station override key as a reward. I've tried it on multiple space stations and it only ever says access denied and destroys it. What is the meaning of this balderdash?

It's either bugged, or it's a feature still not implemented.

I heard that that message it gives about counterfeit codes is what it's always said if you hacked in a code to your inventory, before there was a legit way to obtain them.

But it does seem that they ought to have changed it when the legit way was added.

For some reason I thought this key would let me take ownership of a station :steamsad:

I don't think it's bugged. I think it's still isn't unlocked. It's crazy that it takes peoples key and doesn't return it. Unless it's a joke.

It's likely a troll from the devs since people kept going on about "owning" space stations. :P

This topic is very important to me.

The station override key is essential as many youtubers and users currently recommend not to lose this object and keep it in the expedition game (do not delete this game either when it becomes normal).

This is because that key cannot be acquired (for now) in any other way within the game except from expedition mode.

-----------------------------
Speculation and objective of "station override".

After reading the description and trying "without saving" the key technically as you comment destroys it and also says = Access denied.
This is because these terminals are possibly working and cannot be used.

------------------------------
Theory: Possibly these keys that are limited to this expedition have the objective of being able to control the "abandoned stations" to restart them and activate those stations again. If you have visited these stations, they have the same design as no man sky 2016.

Possibly in some future update the players can control these terminals and also design a new structure (modeling) to resemble the current operating terminals.

Or even being able to control these abandoned stations and edit them internally with sets and other functions like the Cruise.
Maybe they'll even let you choose a race to control the abandoned station

Has anyone tried it on an abandoned station? Or is that even possible?

Not possible.
The abandoned stations don't have the core.

Maybe it was just an epic trolling by HG.

Ah, thanks!

Maybe they only work in undiscovered systems.

Has anyone seen anything from HG about this? This is really puzzling. Why go to the trouble of remodeling the station interior to include the station override terminal, then only issue the single-use key to people in a time-limited quest, buried in a list of cosmetic rewards for completing it so people might not even notice it, and then not even implement whatever it's supposed to do?

At best, I'm hoping this is going to turn out to be a challengingly obscure quest, and they'll occasionally drop more keys, and eventually we'll figure out what to do with them.

The whole expedition felt like HG was trolling us. It was not fun, it was mainly on one horrible planet with storms and meteor strikes. It introduced a truly goofy and convoluted way repair a ship...for reasons...mainly to make sure you could not leave the planet for a good long time. If you tried to get a working ship they made sure they did not have warp engines so you could not leave the system until you fixed the ship they gave you.

Let's face it...this was major heavy bag trolling.

It was hard, it made you work for it and use your brain... What many have been saying the game needed from the beginning. What's that old cliche " a mile wide but inches deep"...
How many times has that been said on the forums?

I personally think it needs even harder tasks in the future.
