Is the game online-only now?
Haven't played in 3 years. I only see two options on the main menu and they both imply that it's an online experience. There's no "play solo" or similar option anymore.

It's in the in-game options > Network... you can turn off multiplayer

You can still play offline, as long as you don't choose multi player. You can start a solo game then go to network options and turn off multiplayer there.

Solo game play still gets uploaded if you have multiplayer turned on.
If you aren't online at all, your progress just gets saved locally until you join a multiplayer game online.

I think the bad decision is having multiplayer on by default when starting a non-multiplayer game. Same for pvp and all the letting others edit your stuff options.

The game is the same as it was three years ago, just with more multiplayer friendly options that you can disable.

Having the options menu spawn before the game would be extremely confusing.

No it wouldn't.

I was confused by not being able to even find the option before starting a new game, because every other game that gives you a choice between the two lets you make that choice BEFORE you start a new game.

Were you confused by having that choice in any other game you've played?

The way it was phrased I took it to mean showing the options before even starting the game. Which would be confusing.

Most games start up before having the options menu show up.
