Dreams of the deep,,,seriously?
So the game seems to expect from me that I spent 1 hour of my time (30 mins to the location and 30 minutes back) just mindlessly swimming in a straight line to the sunken building because it's literally in the middle of the ocean with the nearest coast line being said 30 minutes away from it.

I'm pretty new to the game (didn't play for years now) so...are there any tricks to this? Is that really how the game expects me to handle that?

You can also build that hoover exocraft. It's actually a LOT faster than the submarine and it can go anywhere, land, or water. That's actually the exocraft I recommend for everyone who's starting. Upgrade it fully with S-class stuffs and ytou can move at a really decent speed through mountains and water like it's nothing.

you can build a submarine platform under the water and use that to get there, or fly out and look for small islands closer to the target you can land on, theres quite often bits of land sticking out in the ocean

That's what I am talking about. I've been flying around the location for a pretty long time but the nearest island is MILES away from the objective.

That's the RNG for you. Your bad luck at work. I've never seen it that far out, but yes it happens sometimes. I'm actually surprised I've never seen it that far out, because I have stupid bad luck in games, too. Furthest I've seen it from land is probably a five minute swim.

then yeah, best bets is probably to build a submarine platform and go out that way

Alright. What will I actually get from doing that. Because I will definitely NOT make that trip without something groundbreaking as a reward.

jump a few systems away or hop into a black hole and you will get an option to reset the quest(red swirl next t mission)

You better skip it then, it's mostly about the story told in the quest.

You get a sad story, and a deep-diver helmet cosmetic. So yeah, probably not worth it for you.
First time I did the Dreams of the Deep mission, I got the mission on a water world and had to trek between the same 3 sunken outposts for about an hour.

Never got a chance building any submarine vehicle in game. It bugged my whole playthrough :\

As someone else mentioned, the Nomad Exocraft is a must-have. It's fast, narrow and can float over the ocean.

You can buy the blueprint in the anomaly directly.
