Also, changing colours can be finicky. I had found the perfect style of freighter for myself after some searching. Later on when it came time to customize once I unlocked all the colours, only 1 out of the 3 colour areas worked. Number 1 appeared to only change the stripes and cargo pods. Number 2 and 3 appeared to make no changes to my freighter, so the main hull was forever black.
I decided to cheat it a bit and found another seed of my exact freighter and swapped it out. I was then able to change the main hull colour on that one which made it odd my first one couldn't change. Colours 1 and 2 appeared to work as intended, while number 3 still makes unnoticeable changes.
The bottom line is even if you change the color you will end up in systems with unique color filters which will negate your choices and what was red may now look purple or black until you leave that system.
