Permadeath sounds a bad choice, unless it's only a punctual playtrough to unlock the achievement (and it's a bit ridiculous if you consider that you only need 1 glyph to reach the galaxy center, aka no real challenge), but to be bound to lose all your progress because of a single death (eventually caused by a glitch) sounds like something that will force to play cautious and will definitely make the game less enjoyable....
Also way less players on that mode...
Survival is the same as permadeath, without the save wipe risk. Tiny stacks makes everthing a bit slower and tedious, kinda challenging for the few first hours before you gear up a bit. So it's mostly a mod you'd run punctually to unlock the achievement, but again.... you only need one glyph to complete it...
And same as permadeath, less players on that mode...
For both, there's little point to keep playing the save once you unlocked the achievement.... bewteen being forced to play cautious at all time and the tiny inventores that make most thing, base nuilding first, tedious to obnoxious.... unless you're a streamer and wanna show off, there's no point.
Though I might consider playing "punctually" the 2 special modes, just for the sake of getting the achievements.... but that will mostly be with the MP disabled and it will be a rush to the center.... kinda like the speedrun mode in dragon dogma....
Its why I like the game, you can choose how you want to play and it doesn't impact anyone else.
I have played a survival and a permadeath save but the reduced inventory sizes become really annoying. Once you get some protections for your suit and ship, it becomes the only "challenge" and it is more of a handicap then a legit challenge. Edit: I guess dying by glitch is the other challenge.
If you are really looking for a challenge it is probably better to set some personal rules on how you will play the game. A basic rule might be to only use C class everything. The game is designed to be played in C class and all the enemies are designed to be "handled" with C class items.
Other rules might be you can only accept gifted addons, have only a single tool and/or ship. These would be up to each person to decide what seems "fun".
Just finished getting 100% on all Steam achievements for the game. I was so happy when the PD challenge was done. I am going back to my normal save. 2800+ hours and still finding stuff I want to do in the game.
Many of the little things that do not have much significance in other modes, like the cabin shelters, locked rooms with carbon plants, extensive caves to travel more safely about and so on, suddenly all make sense with Permadeath which is why I like the mode. Exocar racing is also a lot of fun in Permadeath and climbing tall buildings or diving too. You just have to plan things with a little more care and not rush.
Once you build a base or farm and later maybe one or two bases you delete on your journey you will always have enough resources to rebuild large bases using the Escrow Storage container you can build. That hides a lot of resources and travels with you.
I mostly play Normal because it is more populated which is nice and also you still have the choice to meet other players more frequently or not. It just depends what mood I am in when I want to play.
But Im just curious if more of the player base is in normal or survival
I noticed that the galaxy is bigger in survival
