How to make a storage container?
I really need to make a storage container, I'm constantly having to delete stuff just to fit in new loot

Hi there. I think you need to progress with the Base Building missions to complete the basic base. You only need to do those missions once and also get access to mobile storage using the exocars. If you own a freighter the storage containers can be built on the freighter and move with you like a mobile base. Really useful.

Many biueprints you get from the Anomaly so check there from the NPC blueprint sellers. That may be where you get them from. Eventually you will gain more storage than you need but will still fill it up like everyone does in the end lol

You can increase your inventory capacity by visiting a space station and purchasing an inventory expansion, and by doing the same thing in the back of the Anomaly. You can do this once each per new system you visit.

To make actual storage containers, you can unlock them by working your way through the base expansion quest line, or by spending salvaged data to unlock them in the Anomaly.

Easy storage for early on:
- Build a base, you unlock buildable storage containers 0-9 which is a lot.
- Warp 5 times after playing for > 3 hours and rescue a frigate. This frigate can be used as a base and you can build another 0-9 storage containers.
- Build exocraft platforms, it's an extra inventory.
- Buy hauler ships. You can own up to 5 ships when you have a frigate and use them as easy storage (can even summon them anywhere)

Later on you can upgrade your backpack, ship and frigate slots to free up more space. Getting teleport addons for the frigate and spaceship are a must, same with exocraft.

Sort of OK advice.

The base expansion quest only gets you one storage container very close to the beginning.
The rest have to be unlocked at a terminal.

Containers on the freighter and at base are the exact same container not additional.
You have 0-9 containers total. Each container can be accessed from base or freighter but will contain the same items.

Since the containers were increased in storage capacity it is rare you'd need to use ships and exocraft as additional storage any more. There is no reason to hoard that much stuff especially late game when you can pretty much buy what ever you need.

You can own 6 ships and summon them anywhere with or without a freighter.

I found out that the Freighter containers you have are the same as the big block containers you can buy from the anomaly where you buy building stuff. I bought one of those cubes and there was stuff already in it so I went wtf!... So I checked my freighter, it matched the items I had up there so it's not really another set of 20 slot containers

You initially only get the 0 container (from your base computer), but later on your Overseer gives you the rest of them as well (at the same time as he tells you to build the science terminal, if I remember right).

You only have to unlock them at the terminal if you are impatient and have the salvage to spare. The same is true for much of the stuff you can buy at that terminal - you get a lot of it for free from the base building missions.

Come on, we shouldn't have to game the game to get more inventory space. Give us QoL!

Once you get the Zero Container, the next issue is powering it. Handy tip to offload stuff is when you are at your base and near the container, click on anything in your suit inventory and you can transfer it to the container even if it is un-powered.

Be careful with this "trick" because you won't be able to get recover it from the container unless it is powered. You can get BPs for solar panels and batteries at the Anomaly.

It helps to be savvy of what to keep, sell, and throw away. You just have to learn the ropes unfortunately.

On my recent permadeath save, I kept getting gases while mining for mats and it was handy to dump them off in the container. The gases become helpful later in the game but at the beginning they are useless.

Also ended up a salvaged frigate item. Once you get a freighter, they are helpful so nice to be able to dump it to storage for later use.

Actually you can get items out of an unpowered storage container using the exact same inventory shortcut

If you are that early in the game that you have to ask this question, you should probably sell a bunch of the stuff you are hanging on to. There isn't much in the way of rare loot in this game. Storage augmentations and freighter upgrades are probably the only exceptions.

Keep fuel and building resources and sell the rest. If you don't know what it does, you probably don't need to keep it. Chances are pretty high that you can easily get more of these too.

Give effigies to the relevant race for faction, but don't carry them around everywhere.

Plant and animal resources won't help you at this stage. Selling cobalt and random things you find in caves gives you early cash. Those few random bits of rare gas aren't useful yet. If you get something that looks really rare and expensive, you are probably meant to sell it.

Only exception might be microprocessors, but only until you get your hyperdrive going.
