Mineral farms - do you have to afk?
Do you have to be IN the farm for it to continue to fill up the silos? Like a minecraft farm? Or can I go out and play the game while it works?

You can go explore.

Well I have O2 Indium, Phos, Activated Indium etc etc and they all fill up nicely whilst I am away.
SO my experience is its fine to do other things :)

A purrrect answer me thinks...

They work even while the game is off. It's based on system clock, I think. My A.Indium farm fills up in two days, even though the game and computer are off.

Awesome, thanks!

yeah, it's real time. can harvest, log off, and when you log in, you can harvest again

oh... they fixed the bug with the automated mining units ? The one that fill it only with copper no matter where you put it ?

For bonus points, just change your system clock between game sessions and hey presto - time machine.

Or just visit someone else's base coordinates through a portal. It'll always be full no matter what.

Every mechanic in this game is utterly lightweight like that.

Wait, go into someone else's base? And take stuff from their mine? O.o Or am I misunderstanding you?

Yep. There are whole reddits full of portal coordinates. Basically, as soon as you do enough of the main questline to get access to portals, the entire economy is dead to you and credits instantly become meaningless.

And that doesn't hurt the person who owns the base in any way? It doesn't steal their ♥♥♥♥?

I'm used to multiplayers being either an MMO (where you can't access other peoples' supplies except guild banks where you need permission) or like Minecraft/7 Days to Die where you can raid other people's stuff. You can actually empty someone's farm and it's fine?

I think the only way it will affect them is if you pick up their portable tech. Although, it's been a few updates since I did any MP, so not sure if you can still pick up other peoples portables.

That's not what I'm seeing unfortunately... I have a base on a world with paraffinium deposits and have three AMU's set up on one within my bases radius and whenever I portal back in to check, it's out of fuel and has nothing to show for it. Is there a trick to this?
Harry Nov 14, 2020 @ 6:58am
KATANSHIN- boy those AMU's are nasty things!! NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!!!

very predictably unpredictable they are.

Now proper hardwired and pipe Mine/farmers are the way forward but can be a bit involved once you state building them.

:)

Honestly, still too much work. If you looking to , er, "take the easy way", and understand how the game saves, once you get the personal refiner, your set.

Such a cool item, but comes with a lot of underhanded baggage.

Yeah, I understand how the duping works... honestly? It seems like more work to be dinking around with that than to take a day to get up a proper mineral farm and ignore it except to check it once a day. I set up a couple iridium farms on a single planet and it's doing its thing making me millions without me having to do anything with it anymore.
Mineral extractors and gas extractors both function while you're logged out and not playing as long as they have power. Make sure your solar setups will last through the night or your time-to-full won't be accurate.

Autonomous mining units are notoriously bad from what I've read, I wouldn't recommend using them. These are separate placeables that don't require a base.

Anything built using storage silos and supply pipes is an excellent way to stay stocked on key resources. An oxygen farm triples as a carbon and condensed carbon farm, a uranium farm can also be used for ferrous dust, etc.
