What the heck missions

So I got 2 missions from this Gek (which apparently I HAVE to do because -null- wants me to) and one of them is a photo mission (take a picture of a marsh planet) and one is kill 15 creatures.

One of the planets in this system is a "marshy planet" (please tell me that -y is not the reason this isn't working) so I went down and took a ton of photos. The yellow box filled in the "reach the target planet" box so I'm assuming that Y is ok.

Yes, with photo mode from the quick menu.

However. it doesn't update. It just says to take a picture of the landscape. I've taken about 20. What does it want from me??

Also shot some animals while I was there (this marsh planet has awesome giant werewolves so I decided to hunt those) and none of THOSE are registering either. It JUST says "cull creatures - locate creatures on a planet's surface" so how am I not doing it?

Do you have the mission selected, if it's not it won't register any of your actions for the mission.

Absolutely couldn't get the photo one to work no matter what. Even if it was my only mission, and I got the mission popup when I landed, still zero doing. 50 pictures of this dumb planet. I'm just not taking photo missons I guess.

Of course, the Gek says I'm at 1/2 missions for him even though I've done 6 at this point. This is some nonsense.

Try taking a picture of the actual planet from space?

If it doesnt work just abandon it and get another mission, those missions can be got from ANY GEK space station so maybe just go to another space station and get a different mission

yeah you are supposed to do GEK missions

You are getting missions from the guild and from a GEK member but unless the mission says its a GEK mission meaning you are getting GEK increased GEK status, it will not count toward Null's mission.

Found this out myself, and realized I wasnt doing what was being asked of me.

Well yes, it needs to be gek, (Edited my first post to make that clear) but it can be done from any gek station, so just pick one from another system will work

Well... ♥♥♥♥. Even though he has the dang quest symbol, only some of his missions count? They could make THAT more clear, couldn't they? :-/

Yea its not made that clear, when you choose a mission, at the bottom of the mission description it states what faction you will gain reputation in, some or for exploration guild etc, not all are for Gek so you need to look there, the annoying thing is, under the log section, the guide will tell you ALL missions give reputation to Gek, this is simply not true.

Back to the topic... This particular mission with a marsh planet photo seems to be bugged. I'm stuck on it right now too.

Its not bugged, I think I may know what you arent doing as I have started a permadeath playthrough again and just did this.
Does your mission ask for a wide angle photo?
If so, thats what your not doing, you have to bring up the camera and go into the photo settings, there will be a field of view slider, slide it so its 120 percent and take the picture. Standard picture is not wide angle

I've had problems with the "planet type" photo missions since Origins dropped. I think they're broken right now, because I haven't had one that's worked yet -- all three or four I've taken have been on new planet types (marsh, weird, and volcanic) I would just cancel it, and take a mission from a different Gek system's station.

I've never seen one ask for a wide-angle. That's new to me.

Photo missions are not bugged. After you have completed everything in the game the base NPC Specialists will have recurring missions for you which you can optionally follow or not.

The Farmer asks me to collect stuff and so on. You can get some really high value rewards like Treasures and stuff or Units for doing the quick missions.

My Overseer always asks me for photos. When you find the correct planet type land and take the photo. Make sure you use the correct button to snap the photo. Don't use the steam F12 but use the in game keys mapped. I think on PC when you have Photo mode active it is the left mouse button, like when mining or using the fire button.

Any photo request mission uses the directed button. Taking a screenshot for the mission using another button method will not complete the mission.

Yes, so if it says landscape, you need to increase your photo field of view from 100 to 120, sorry, that was my fault for calling it wide angle, i meant landscape not wide angle, but said wide angle as widening the field of view is to me, wide angle. For example, pictures come in portrait (standard) or landscape (wide angle) Basically, I called it the wrong thing, but do what I said and it will work
