When you enter the control room for the friehgter the circular console next to the fleet deployment has the upgrades option console. The tech tree uses salvaged frigate modules to unlock.
You can get salvaged frigate modules from:
1. Fleet missions
2. Nexus missions
3. Crashed freighters on planets.
4. Derelict freighters (which require a beacon from scrap vendor in station)
5. Derelict freighters (no required beacon) from extremely rare anomaly detector.
The frigate modules from derelict and crashed freighters are not a sure thing.
I think a fully upgraded class S freighter can do like 6000 light year jumps.
That is a useful advice. Thank you.
