Short range teleporter problem
Hi all,

I've got a problem connecting up two short range teleporters, that hopefully someone could help with.

I've got a mountaintop base on an arctic world. I've got two building areas - one at the top of a mountain peak and one down the peak a bit. About 3-400m apart. diagonally b/w both I've got a startship landing pad.

The two buildings are separated by about 2-300m vertically, and the landing pad is at the same level of the lower buildings, while I've got a normal teleporter in the top buildings.

So I'd like to build a short range teleporter pair b/w the top and bottom buildings. But whenever I try to two - one in the top buildings and one in the bottom - I get a "Too close to Starship" warning and it won't let me.

BUT if I build a pair of teleporters only in the top _or_ bottom buildings right next too each other , I can connect those two together.

So my problem is if I can build two teleporters right next to each in both buildings, why can't I connect two b/w the two different buildings?

...It can't be an actual "Starship too close" problem (as it says when I try to connect them), as a teleporter in the exact same position will connect to another one built right next to it quite happily.

Does anyone have any ideas?

thanks!

Move your starship, build.

Pretty sure short range telporters can only go 200m. May need to build 2 sets.

...I'll check this out, but in that case (it's just too far) does it still give a warning about 'starship too close' or does it instead have a message about being too far?

I'll try that (I also delete the starship dock) ...the only problem is this mountain is freakin hard to land on anywhere else lol

You could build a small shelf half way up. Have 2 teleporters there face to face so you can just keep walking forward to go to the top or bottom.

The ship has a goofy interaction with the 3D space around it. Even when the ship is no where close to the build or delete event, it will trigger a building failure. This is esp. true if the ship is far away, but far away vertically.....the ship can be 100 u away and still trigger this if it is under the build site. It also blocks building of some items that are adjacent to the landing pad but INSIDE the base. It's clearly a bug that requires some tweaking of an equation or lookup table somewhere.

Also the error messages are not consistent. Although it usually will identify the ship as the offending object, the UI doesn't always. Sometimes it will just say something vague, like can't build due to object, even when it is the ship.

Even worse, IMO, is the reduced connection distance for wires and pipes. Used to be over 200 u, now it's under 50 u. That means you will be round tripping to junction points by foot or jetpack....I estimate it will increase base building times by at least 30%, assuming use of wires and pipes.
