For me warp distance matters the least - what are you doing? The only time I wanted to maximize warp distance is when I tried to find the outermost reaches of the galaxy. Speed means you get everything done faster, less time traveling to a planet, less time searching for things on a planet.
Whoa O.o, Its a good point to have high impulse in order to speed things up. I might do that with my planet explorer. But I also need a ship without any impulse upgrades in order to simulate hovering, which 20 u/s is as slow as it gets for me. That role is filled by the largest hauler I can find. The only upgrades are maxed out shotgun. Slow and deadly.
