Why does my flashlight turn off at random and always when I need it the most?
This has bugged me from day one. I walked into a new room in an abandoned building, there was no light, and my flashlight turned off. I turned it back on and it stayed on thankfully but why it do that?

Turns off and on according to the night/day cycle. You can turn it on with the quick-menu if you need it.

Doesn't it turn off when you enter a building regardless of day or night?

It was on when I entered the room. That room had plenty of life. When I went to the dark room it turned off.

I also experience a buggy auto flashlight. Sometimes it turns on when I don't need it. Like on my freighter for example, which is well lit. Sometimes it'll turn on and overexpose the lighting because it makes things too bright. Other times when it's dark somewhere, the light clicks off. Doesn't solely depend on day/night cycle.

Sometimes the game has trouble determining if your inside or outside. I've seen it happen inside generated structures, large player bases, even inside caves. Symptoms of this are not only the light turning on and off but also weather effects inside buildings and caves and the camera constantly zooming in and out.

there is a setting (found under settings) that you can turn off the auto feature of the torch, leaving you to turn in on/off on your own

It turns on/off with light shifts. Not just day night, any shadow or 'cave' can trigger the light.
What ticks me off is when it changes your tool from what you choose to anything else. I know i can just switch it again. Gets really annoying if you have more then 2 abilities on your 'tool'.

I keep the auto light turned off in general settings and turn it on and off manually with the default T.

It has an automatic turn on feature when it's dark....but just like the automatic high beams in some cars, it will flick on and off in a crazy way sometimes...but technically it is doing exactly what' it's supposed to be doing.

This happened to me this morning when I had a super heated rainstorm inside a huge cave. Just a small portion of it and I was able to walk out of it.
